Give Us This Day . . .

A friend of mine shared a link this past weekend during a Sunday School Lesson she was teaching us on facebook to a devotional talk  given by Elder D Todd Christopherson at BYU in January of 2011. It was entitled simply Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread.  It was exactly what I needed to hear at this moment.

Sometimes life gets really hard.  Things happen to us that are totally out of our control. Often for reasons not of our own making.  That's when life becomes a struggle.  When looking at the total picture makes us feel like we are drowning, and we just can't go on  . . . days when we just want to lay down and . . .  give up.

The future might seem bleak, or may even be bleak . . . we find ourselves standing at the entrance to a really dark tunnel and we know that we are going to have to walk through it if we are ever going to get to the other side.  Standing still isn't an option.  There is no other choice.

Sometimes it is all we can do to just do  . . .  today.

And you think to yourself.  Yes, I can do today. I can get through whatever it is today throws at me.  I can do today, one minute, one hour . . . at a time.  I can trust in the Lord for today.  I can put my hand in His and let Him help get me through today.

And that's what you do.  You get through today.

And hopefully before you know it you are through what seems like a bazillion todays and you are seeing the light at the end of the dark tunnel.

I can do hard things.  I can do today.  With His help I can do today.

A thought to carry with you  . . .

  1. Many times in life I have felt all alone in a struggle...but in this mess right now, we certainly have plenty of the population also going through this too. Maybe in the end of it, we will see some positive things...I hope so!!
    Hang in there, Elizabeth xoxo

    1. Yeh, I can't think of the whole picture. We now have the highest death toll in all of Europe. Its so depressing and yes discouraging. They are talking of second and third waves. There doesn't seem to be an end to it. I have hope, but it wavers! xoxo

  4. Living one day at a time is the best way to live ! That's why we pray give us our daily bread.

    1. That's very true. I like to say my own prayers most of the time, but there are times when I can only pray that prayer because I have no words for anything else. xoxo

  5. Marie, I sense you're going through a rough spot. Please take gentle care and know that things will get better. We will all come out of this pandemic much wiser and much kinder and much more patient and with a new appreciation of each other. Hugs and love, Elaine

  6. Oh, I do want a meatloaf sandwich. You have the best food options ever.
Thanks for this post today. I woke up a bit down and need to recognize that I do this. With His help, I can do this day and move forward. I'm so grateful for the knowledge that I can always talk with my Heavenly Father and that I can feel peace and comfort from the spirit. I will read this message, again.
Blessing, hugs and love being sent your way!
