The Simple Woman's Day Book

FOR TODAY, March 17, 2020

Outside my window...
The streets are quiet, the birds are singing.  Its cool but clear, and dry.  The gulls are squawking.

I am thinking ...
About how your life can change very quickly.  About what a great equalizer something like a Pandemic is.  It doesn't matter how rich you are or how poor, how educated or uneducated, etc. we are all on a level playing field with this horrible virus. There was a 21 year old die from it yesterday. We all need to be taking this seriously. Nobody is safe.  They are saying the elderly (over 70's)  and those with underlying health issues will be asked to stay at home for three months. It will be mandatory. I am prepared for the long haul.  Lets be honest here. "THEY" don't really know anything for sure.  Better safe than sorry is my motto.

I am thankful for ...
The church which has been preparing us for such an eventuality for years now. We are ready, or as ready as you can be.

In the kitchen ...

Fish Sticks Casserole with Cheesy Vegetable Rice.  A store cupboard favourite!  A great way to make a few odds and bobs go a LONG way!   You can also make as much or as little of it as you want. Its very easy to multiply or divide.

On my "To Cook" list ...

My Diary of Us.  Honey and Beet Frozen Yogurt.  This sounds interesting and what a pretty colour!

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Now is a great time to start prepping for next Christmas. Ho. Ho. Ho.

Jennifer McGuire.  Shaker Ornaments.

Pixie Hill.   Walnut Shell Ornaments.  Cute!

Vicki Chrisman.   Cookie Cutter Ornaments.

Martha Stewart.  Winter Village Putz House.

Pine Feather.  Happy Easter jar Topper.

I am reading ...

One Moment, by Linda Green
Finn and Kaz are about to meet for the first time... Ten-year-old Finn, a quirky, sensitive boy who talks a lot and only eats at cafes with a 5-star hygiene rating, is having a tough time at school and home. Outspoken Kaz, 59, who has an acerbic sense of humour and a heart of gold, is working at the café when Finn and his mum come in. They don't know it yet, but the second time they meet will be a moment which changes both of their lives forever . . .

Have only just started this, but it had great reviews.  Its all about being different.

Dreaming About ...

Cool, green and peaceful hideaways  . . .  on warm summer days  . . .

Where will it lead us  . . . .

A spoon with a message  . . . .

A garden bed  . . . .

What door to a magical world will it open  . . . .

Makes me smile ...

Brothers  . . . the dog of a friend of mine just had puppies. They are only a few days old.  They are Cavapoos.

Something to watch ...

Amelie. This cozy movie is like a warm blanket. Amelie is a French film with subtitles, but you quickly get used to it. The cinematography and music are just awesome, and I love the plot. Its one of our favourites.

A thought to carry with you ...

Corners of my kingdom ...

This is a photo I took of a statue the gardens at Hever Castle when we were living down South.  Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.

And that's my daybook for this week!

  1. Hi, Marie! What a time it is lately, isn't it?! While we're not in any "risk" category, we're as prepared as we can be... it's hard to know! And the Corona virus is a bit tricky some some of the symptoms are hardly there, like cold & flu--very different beast, this one. Thank you for keeping up all the good info and fun here in the meantime...God Bless you & yours, and be keeping safe and well! LOVE YOU SO MUCH ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  3. I'm not sure how level the playing field is....there are people who don't have a safe place to go, people who have to choose between going to work or leaving their children home alone.....

I love the Putz houses. I keep thinking about making some but always find something else to do instead.

Goodness there is nothing sweeter than a puppy. I've been spending as much time as I can with my little dog.

    1. I am sorry if you took that the wrong way Jenny, I meant that we are all vulnerable. No matter how wealthy or how poor, etc. I feel for those who are having to make difficult choices like that and I really feel for the homeless who have no place to hide. xoxo
