Small & Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life.   It's the small things in life which truly mean the most.  Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

Reading this book.  I can't tell you how many times in my life I have read it. Its a lot.  Each time I take it out and open it up its like visiting with an old friend. I never tire of it.  Never.  It is a comfort book.
Winter sunsets.  I don't know what it is about Winter, but the sunsets are spectacular on clear days.  The rest of the year I barely notice them, but in winter our skies fill with blues and golds and crimson lights as the sun beds down for the evening.

The light in late afternoon at this time of year.  It is not the best time of year for photographing things in natural light, but I do love the way it makes you feel all cosy and warm indoors and like snuggling in.  This is the season of hygge . . .

The art of taking tea.  With proper cups, finger sandwiches, cake and pinkies outstretched.  It puts a smile in every heart.  This is the time of year these little rituals give us something to warm our hearts with, and to look forward to.
Fairy lights. This is the time of year that they really look special, when you begin to really appreciate them . . .

Candle light cosy  . . .  warm scented, soft light . . .  flickering flames  . . .

Toast and jam . . .  jam and toast.  A once in a blue moon treat.  I used to have butter on it also, but as I get older things disappear in my attempts to do better  . . .

Simple suppers  . . .  like scrambled eggs, or beans on toast . . .

The Book of Mormon  . . .  we are studying it this year in our Come Follow Me classes.  I am enjoying it once again, studying it again.  I watch the Book of Mormon videos on the church channels, which are very good and help to bring it to life.  I listen to it in the car. I follow Don't Miss This on YouTube.  It is coming alive for me again.

Growing up we always knew what day of the week it was by what my mother was doing and what we were having for supper.  I love routine.  There is a great deal of comfort to be found in routine and predictability.   Perhaps that makes me boring, but that's me!  I like the the stability to be found in routine.

Loving and being loved in return . . .  its pretty wonderful  . . .

Knowing I am never alone.  I have a husband I can confide in, a good friend I can share with, my sister who has always been there for me . . .  prayer, which is the ultimate and a blog where I can give voice to my thoughts.

Life is good  . . .

A thought to carry with you  . . .

Nothing new in the kitchen today, but if you are wanting a warming soup, this Curried Cauliflower Soup is very nice.

I do believe I am slowing down  . . .

Have a wonderful week!  Don't forget!

    1. I loved hearing about the GG winners this morning also. I need to see the film about Elton John, and Fleabag is still on my list. I need to watch it without Todd. This is my busy time of the month as I am prepping a lesson to teach for next Sunday. I am slowing down everywhere though. I just can't seem to find the time to do all that I want to do! I wanted to see Judy but will wait for it to come out on dvd I think! Hope you have a great day also! xoxo

  2. Hi Marie~

Such a comforting post today...I love that gorgeous sunset! It is a cozy time of year, when we get to hunker down in our homes and enjoy the quiet, before spring. It seems like when spring comes, things get so busy for us.

What can you say about, Little Woman, such a wonderful read and movie. I haven't seen the new movie, but would like to.

So many wonderful foods that I have had to leave behind in my attempt to become healthier. I have to say that I still indulge in toast with butter, but only once in a while.

I have loved the, Come Follow Me, curriculum! We go to a study group with a few friends, who are very knowledgeable when it comes to the scriptures, they have taught me so much. It has been a good opportunity to grow and stretch.

Have a wonderful week, sweet friend!! Love you tons!

    Hugs,
    Barb

    1. I want to see the new film, but will probably wait until it comes out on dvd Barb. It is cheaper these days to buy the dvd than go to the movies! Although once in a while for something really special it is a real treat! How wonderful that you have a study group to study with for the Come Follow Me! Do you watch Don't Miss This on Youtube? Love and hugs. xoxo

  3. Hi Marie, you must try to see Little Women. It is a fabulous movie and adds its own spin to the classic story without distorting it. And I love scrambled eggs. That's what I had for breakfast this morning. I know what you mean about slowing down. It even seems to take me longer to have my bath and get dressed in the morning. What's up with that? Go at your own pace. The blogs are yours and so is the schedule for posting. Fewer posts means we will value the ones you do post all the more. Well, it's bedtime here and very early morning in Chester for you. Hope you had a good sleep. Hugs, Elaine
