The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, October 1st, 2019

Outside my window ...
The nights are really drawing in now. Its 6:30 am and its still dark out. They are expecting the tail end of Hurricane Lorenzo later this week, by Thursday. They are saying it should be weakened by then so we will just get a  lot of wind and rain. I hope it's not too bad as we are suppose to go to Tina and Tony's for lunch and I can't wait! I love spending time with them.

I am thinking ...
How is it that we are already into October???? Calgon take me away!!

I am thankful for ...
All of YOU!!!

In the kitchen ...

Apple Pie Foldover

Apple Pie Foldover.  A delicious apple tart made with one sheet of pastry, 3 apples and a few other bits and pieces. Nothing extravagant, but the taste!!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Mel's Kitchen Cafe.  Buttery Pull Apart Bundt Bread.  This looks really yummy!

 Good to know ...

Necklace lengths, good to know for when you are ordering online and can't try them on in person.

I am creating ...

Handmade Iya.  Patchwork slipper tutorial. So lovely!

Little Cotton Rabbits.  Knitted reindeer dolls. Cute!

I could not find a source, but these are died maple tree seeds. Such a cute idea!

A piece of rainbow. Pop Up Floral Birthday Card tutorial.

No source, wine cork Christmas Trees, you could use wooden spools also. They look really easy to make.

 I am Reading ...

When All Is Said, by Anne Griffin

'I'm here to remember - all that I have been and all that I will never be again.'

At the bar of a grand hotel in a small Irish town sits 84-year-old Maurice Hannigan. He's alone, as usual -though tonight is anything but. Pull up a stool and charge your glass, because Maurice is finally ready to tell his story. Over the course of this evening, he will raise five toasts to the five people who have meant the most to him. Through these stories - of unspoken joy and regret, a secret tragedy kept hidden, a fierce love that never found its voice - the life of one man will be powerfully and poignantly laid bare. Heart-breaking and heart-warming all at once, the voice of Maurice Hannigan will stay with you long after all is said.

Have only just begun this, but its a cracker!

I am looking forward to ...

Lunch with Tina and Tony on Thursday and our church's General Conference this weekend!

Dreaming of ...

Now that's a sink.  I'd have to cover in the base however, for a storage area . . . maybe a built in dish washer . . .

Isn't that cute  . . .

Yes please  . . .

Very efficient . . .

I'll take one of each please!

Makes me smile ...

The story of Ruth. Its one of my favourite stories in the Bible.

(just on a side note, don't ever look up Smile Makers on Pinterest! Yikes!)

Something to Watch ...

Father Damien. The true story of the nineteenth century priest who volunteered to go to the island of Molokai, to console and care for the lepers.

A thought to carry with you  ...

  2. Hope your rain is a gentle one by the time it gets to you. Here it is unusually hot for us and we are setting records for the heat. Very unusual. We can't do much about the weather so try to make the most of what we have. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

  3. I don't wear much jewelry, but that sizing chart is a great reference! Now, I catch myself feeling wistful for the housewares shown in that advertisement. Just imagine what they might retail for in today's marketplace!

  5. I love that stove. We had one very similar when we were growing up but it was cream colour. And what cute slippers you're making. Lots of creative ideas. I've just put two pot pies in the oven for dinner. Hope you don't get too much rain. It's raining here now and unseasonably hot but cooler tomorrow. That pull-apart bundt bread looks delicious. Hugs, Elaine

  6. Hi Marie~

October sure did get here fast! I don't mind the cooler weather, but those late mornings and early nights sure do make me blue. I try to go outside for at least 15 min a day in the winter, so I hope it doesn't get too cold!

On October 21st, it will be one year since my mother passed, and on the 31st, thirty-six years since my father passed. I try to stay positive and remember that they are together... :0)

Thankful for you too, Marie, and for all you share with us. I have gotten so many cute ideas from these posts. I just love the vintage kitchen! Those women really had to be organized to get all the things done that they did everyday. And, they made it beautiful!

I love, Ruth, she was such a wonderful woman, and I love that scripture...I had something very similar on my wedding invitations 45 years ago.

You truly live in such a beautiful part of the world, thank you for sharing! XOXOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. October is a sad month for you Barb for sure. My parent's would have been married for 65 years this October. Ruth and Lydia are two of my favourite women in the Bible, aside from Mary. Love you my sweet friend. When you comment you brighten my days! xoxo
