The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, June 25th, 2019

Outside my window ...
Its completely overcast, no rain yet, but I am betting it won't be long! It didn't rain yesterday but it was so hot and muggy, all of that moisture coming out of the ground. We had to dig out the fans and crank them up.  I am not a fan of hot and muggy. It just sucks away all my energy!

I am thinking ...
Was looking at photos of Elvis's grandson Benjamin Keogh and wondering what it must be like to first of all be Elvis's grandson and then look so much like him on top of it all. What a burden that would be. It would be very difficult to find your place as a person in your own right.  I don't think I would like it very much.

I am thankful for...
Family, Faith, Friends . . .  three f-words in life that I could not/would not want to be without! The only f-words that matter.

One of my favourite things ...

I've helped my sister to get a new blog to help support her new business and get it up and running. Its called Lost Lovelies Found.  She has some really beautiful stuff on there, some cute things, some quite valuable finds, etc. She is also going to sell artwork once she gets going.  In any case you can find it here at Lost Lovelies Found.  Go give her some loving and follow her!  I know she will really appreciate it!

In the kitchen ...

Mexican Chicken Club Flatbread

Tex Mex Chicken Clubs.  With layers of refried black beans, cheese, a spicy chicken stir fry, and crisp bacon, along with a Chipotle Ranch Drizzle Dressing, these please on many levels.  A knife and fork sandwich!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Stress Baking homemade Apple Cinnamon Toaster Strudels.  My youngest son used to love having a Toaster Strudel for breakfast.  I used to buy them just for him. They were quite tasty, but I am thinking homemade ones would be even tastier.

Good to know ...

I think this is quite true.

I am creating ...

Not quite finished with these yet.  I have to put wings on the bee doll and fill her backpack with goodies.  I need to make a pie carrier for my amish doll to carry her pie in and maybe rouge her cheeks.  And then put them in my Etsy Shop along with the ladybug one, etc. I also need to write little stories to go along with them.

Flower Brooch by Pants and Paper on Flickr. She has a beautiful stream.

Crochet Bumble Bee at Attic 24.  So cute!

Zoom Yummy on Etsy. Not free but not expensive either. Downloadable pdf.

Whiskers and Wool.  Flower rings. Free pattern.  These would make great blind pulls!

I am reading ...

Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl.

But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens. Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Celeste Ng,

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

This came highly recommended. I am really enjoying it, more than I have enjoyed a book in a while now!

I am looking forward to ...

Eileen and Anthony coming over. I think it will be October now.  Trying to save as much money as  I can before they come so we can do some fun things together. I would love to be able to take them up to the Lakes and stay for a couple days. We'll see.

Dreaming About ...

Wildflowers and blue skys . . .

  2. Hi, Marie! We're having the same weather here today... although a few raindrops have fallen. The air is a bit humid, which thankfully isn't often here, but annoying when it is. A real energy-zapper for sure. And my hair is like a BIG fizzy mess today... haha! What a pretty name for your sister's blog... Lost Lovelies Found, that is so sweet! Hope she has some good success and fun with her business! Ooo...that strudel looks good! Trying sooo hard not to eat sugar, though... darn! :/ The sugar substitues are expensive here, and some of them not so good for you either. Dilemma! haha... Sooo CUTE those little dollies you've been making. The Amish-style doll is so cute with her little pie! :) Love those sweet bird/flower crochet ormanents--very cute! Oh, and that writing desk... I've always loved little writing desks. Sooo excited to hear that your Eileen will be coming to see you after all!! We're in summer now, so not a long wait for them, then! Hope you all have a good new week now... LOVE YOU ALL!! :) ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

    1. I get frizz with the humidity also Tracy, another drawback to it all! I hope my sister has success also. She gets discouraged very easily and I so want her to do well with this! It is so hard not to eat sugar. They put it in just about everything, but like you I don't like sugar substitutes either. I would rather eat something that has less of the real thing, or at least uses a natural sweetener like Maple or honey. I am really looking forward to seeing my kiddos for sure! Love and big hugs to you , TJ and Luna also! xoxo

  3. Where to start? I so enjoyed today's post! The little writing desk, the photo of dear Beatrix (one of my heroines!- how I wish I could visit Hill Top Farm), and the book suggestion. I just went on my library's site to reserve it - 502 reserves ahead of me! Guess I'll need to be patient.
And one more F word - Freedom!
    Love,Mary

  4. I too hate the hot and muggy days. We finally got a nice warm one today without rain. It has put a damper on planting our flowers this year. We finally go them in yesterday.
I did drop by your sisters site and will go back and take more time. I love the items.
All the food looks yummy and I would love a taste. However, right now I am on a special diet for my health.
I do love all the items to make; I just wish I was into that sort of thing. Maybe someday, I will get to do some of these side projects.
Do you think this book would be a good one for a book club? One of our wards has a club that I attend once in a while.
I'm so excited for you to have your loved ones come for a visit and I hope you can do some enjoyable things. Most important will be fore them to just have time with you two.
You do have the best things that you are dreaming about; I always love them.
Have an extra sweet week my friend; sending love and hugs!

    1. Oh LeAnn, I need to have more willpower like you have! There are some sexual episodes in the book, so probably not a good book for a church related bookclub. I would not recommend it for that. Otherwise it is an excllent book. Love and hugs to you also my dear sweet friend. oxox

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
