The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, June 11th, 2019

Outside my window ...
Its raining, its pouring, the old man is snoring  . . . . and it's fairly windy too!

I am thinking ...
I had in mind yesterday that I had my diabetic eye test in the  morning. I even gave up an opportunity to watch Grace while Jose went to the dentist for it, only to discover I was a week early. DOH!

I am thankful for ...
We are supposed to get a LOT of rain this week.  Thankful for how beautiful the gardens are going to be afterwards and also thankful that the window washer was able to get our windows done before the rain started!

One of my favourite things ...

The God who gave us such a beautiful planet also gave us beautiful sunrises and sunsets to embroider each and every day.  I love to watch them. Most spectacular sunset ever was one we witnessed from the train on our way back to Chester from London back in 2001 when two of my boys were visiting from Canada. It was spectacular! Mom and I also used to go up to Margaretville and watch the sun set over the bay.

In the kitchen ...

Honey Mustard Chicken & Potatoes

Honey Mustard Chicken and Potatoes.  Chicken quarters, bacon, new potatoes, braised in a creamy honey mustard sauce. Sized perfectly for two.  But you can easily multiply to serve more.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Eat Little Bird.  Steamed Bao Buns.

Good to know ...

I have found this to be true  . . .

I am creating ...

Make and Takes.  Paper spinners. I remember my dad making us these with buttons when I was a child.  We would spend hours with them.

Krokotak.  Kids on a swing in an empty shoe box. Rainy day fun for kids.

Sew Wonderful. Fifty minute knitted purse.

Lets Knit.  Easy Knitted Fish.

Knitted Toadstools by Merrin Curley on Ravelry.

 I am reading ...

Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl.

But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens. Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Celeste Ng,

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

This came highly recommended.  Enjoying it very much.

I am looking forward to ...
My son and daughter coming over in a couple months. Hopefully August. 😊😊

  1. Hi Marie, can't believe you went to the eye clinic a week early, that's hilarious! A proper 'senior' moment!!

I know the rain is good for the gardens but I'm fed up with it. I got soaked through again yesterday for the second time in a week! It's been absolutely torrential!! I try and take my sister out a few days a week, she loves walking but this weather is just hopeless for that. We might go to Gordale instead.

You must be so excited for August, I bet it can't come quick enough!

    Lot's of love xxx

    1. Gordale is a great treat Kate! I have not been there in ages. This weather is supposed to keep up for a bit longer methinks. I hope the weather next week is a lot better! Yes, a proper senior moment. The thing with these specialised appointments is they can't just fit you in because you are a week early, mores the pity! I'll just have to suck it up and go next week when I was supposed to go! LOL xoxo

    1. I was saying to Todd that Meryl Streep is a great character actress. She seems to adapt to any role given her and play them perfectly! When she played Margaret Thatcher, completely believable. Sophies Choice, completely believable. She is a great actress I think. The first episode was a bit slow, hoping it will pick up myself! August will be great methinks! xoxo

  4. Always enjoy your day-book entries. You have so many good thoughts and ideas. I of course, loved Elder Uchtdorf's quote; it is so true.
    Your book look inquiring.
Paper and button spinners were so fun. I remember spending a lot of time playing with them. I may introduce them to our grandchildren.
Sending blessing, love and hugs your way!
I am very excited that you son and daughter are coming for a visit.
Your photos were lovely today. I really loved the Black Swan with the baby.
