Something for a Sunday . . .

I hardly ever have enough time these days to do a proper post on Sunday mornings, so I am going to start something new.  I am just going to post a picture, and then you can tell me what it makes you feel or think in the comments.  I will too.

  1. They say if you can cut all the skin from an apple in one long piece, all of your wishes will come true. What say you? I say if you do that enough times, you have the makings of a mighty fine pie! xoxo

    1. My Todd loves apple pies. They're his favourite, but I never make them because he is always talking about how good his mother's were and I don't think I could make one as good as she did. Silly I know. xoxo

    2. I do understand, Marie. My hubby's mom was a great baker too. Funny thing happened however. When we were newly married, one of my friends had a marvelous pie crust recipe (had an egg and vinegar in it). So I used that recipe ever after as it never failed on me. I also gave it to his mom. After she died, one day, his dad called me and asked for HER pie crust recipe. So I got out the one his mom gave me before marriage. He insisted that was not the right one. So finally I told him how I learned to do it from my friend, with the egg and vinegar and he said, Oh that is the one!! Turns out, she changed to using that one ever after, even took a pie to the fair and won top prize. Letting everyone she knew think it was HER original recipe, rather than one from my friend. Aren't people silly sometimes?? Who cares...if it tastes good, no matter where it comes from!! Any way, I have made pies for my hubby some...but he had another pie he loved too, a fresh strawberry pie recipe I found in a Betty Crocker cookbook...so THAT pie then more or less, became MY PIE for him. At least some of the time. I wonder if anyone has Todd's mom's recipe? One thing my hubby's mom did with her pies was add a bit of lemon plus a few pats of butter, to the apple mix along with the usual ingredients. And also a small bit of almond flavoring, cinnamon and NO nutmeg (which a lot of cooks use for apple pies). Hope you find one to try out. I am sure it will TASTE great!! And if Todd complained? Well, let him make it next. HA! If you be sure to plop a big gob on vanilla ice cream on top...whoever would really know exactly what the pie tasted like anyway!! HAHA!!

  3. The picture makes me think of home and fall and apple crisp. There are so many beautiful apple 🍎 pie recipes that Todd could have two favourites - yours and his mom's. I'm off to make breakfast. Have a serene Sunday. Hugs, Elaine

  5. I loved the photos and it reminded me of my Mother and Grandmother when they would make yummy pies. Of course, it shows the peeling of an apple. I used to help a bit. I feel kind of sad because I’m ot that great at making pies. I kind of gave up because I knew I couldn’t compete with my Mother and Grandmother.
It was a fun nostalgia photo.
    Blessings and hugs!
