Wednesday morning this and that . . .

Our stove is back working again.  It turned out it wasn't the stove at all, but the electrics to the stove. Our electric system here in the UK is quite different than that in North America.  I have a dual fuel stove, having a gas hob/burners and an electric oven.  You still need electricity for the gas hob as it has electric igniters. (I could have used a match, but didn't have any.)  It had something to do with the safety switch beneath the stairs, it kept tripping off. So our landlord came over and sprayed it with something and now its working perfectly.

Of course they had to turn off the whole electricty to the house to figure it out, etc. This set off the security alarm for the house!  It took Todd and the landlord a few minutes to figure out how to shut it down, so it was a bit noisy for a bit. Exciting times!

I had to go out for a few bits and bobs yesterday.  Things I was running out of like flour, butter, milk.  I noticed that the Camelia by our front door has swollen pink buds now, with some looking fit to burst open.  It seems a bit early to me, but then Spring is really just around the corner.  The first day of Spring is on the 20th March, just a little over a month away.  The snow drops are also in full swing  . . .

Of course the true harbinger of Spring here in the UK is the humble bumble bee. When you see them lumbering through the garden, you know that Spring has truly arrived.

My brothet sent me a digital scan of my mother's colourized portrait.  I only had what was a photo taken of the original photo by my iPad from 5 1/2 years ago.  I uploaded it to Cheerz and then ordered a print of it for me to frame. Of course I could not only order one.  I had to order five at least, so I ended up ordering six. Guess what each of the kids is getting for Christmas this year. It wasn't too expensive.  Less than £15 for all six. Todd pooh-poohed over the expense a bit, but I put my foot down. I'm having a proper photo of my mum full-stop, end of discussion.  This was the only way I was going to get one.  Men are not so sentimental I don't think, or at least not as sentimental over the same things.

We watched an episode of Call The Midwife last night ( one of the reruns).  It was the one from when Chummy has her baby.  I know every episode of CTM is a blubberfest, but I had a real blubberfest last night.  I started remembering one of the last conversations I had with my mom.  She told me about how nervous she had been as a first time mum. She really hadn't a lot of experience with babies before me.  Oh, sure . . .  she had done some babysitting, but they had mostly been asleep and not awake.  She had taken me to the Doctor one day because she said I kept lifting my legs up and she was sure that something was wrong with me.  The Doctor was able to reassure her that lifting my legs up was perfectly normal.  Thinking of my mother as a nervous first time mother made me cry.  It really does come in waves . . . sometimes small and other times all out crashing Tsunami waves. Last night was a Tsunami. Its bound to happen time to time.

I had a message from one of my DIL's last night.  Apparently a week ago her father slipped on some ice across the street from their house and broke three of his ribs and punctured his lung.  He is not a well man anyways, as his cancer has come out of remission, so he is back in hospital.  They have transferred him to another hospital now as things are not going well, so he has been moved to a hospital which has a specialist who can deal with his problems.  I hope she doesn't mind but I wanted to ask you to all keep him in your special prayers.  Just pray for Mr Thornton.  God will know who you mean.  Thank you very much!  And if you are a Temple attending person, if you could put his name into the Temple that would be great.  A whole prayer chain of love. Its a good thing.

I wanted to do something for our landlord yesterday to thank him for sorting out the electrics so I thought I would bake him some cookies.  I had found a recipe for a cookie called "I Want To Marry You Cookies."  Worst cookies I ever baked.  Flat, sticky and they stuck to the pan like nobody's business, even though I had greased the baking sheet first.  A total mess.  I do NOT recommend.  I know how to bake and this recipe has some serious flaws in it.  I was so dismayed at the wasting of all those ingredients.  The photograph had looked so good, but mine looked nothing at all like the photograph on here. NOTHING at all.  It happens sometimes, thankfully not very often.

I spent part of yesterday getting some Birthday cards ready to pop into the post.  We have a few coming up towards the end of February and beginning of March.  I try to make my cards a feast for enjoyment right from the envelope in . . . I have given up sending gifts now.  I just send money.  It was getting too expensive to send gifts.  At least with money they can buy themselves something they want, or at least put it towards something they want.

A question for all you Instagram users.  Normally when someone follows me on Instagram, I follow them back, unless it is obviously spammers. I bet I get about 5 or 6 new followers every day, but for some reason the number that shows on my Instagram seems to decrease and never really goes up the way it says it does?  Why is that happening?  Is it  normal?

Another thing we have watched recently.  This is a documentary on Netflix. We like shows like this from time to time. I remembered the case very well as the Victim of the murder was a British girl. After watching the program and seeing everything surrounding the case, I came away thinking that the Italian Police must be totally inept.  I can't believe that this girl and her boyfriend were convicted in the first place with the amount of contamination that went on at the murder scene, and mishandling of well  . . . everything!!  I found myself getting angry as I watched it because everything was just so wrong and circumstantial!  Has anyone else watched this and what are your thoughts?

And finally . . .  something has happened that has never happened before.  I managed to make our Orchid re-bloom.  I forget who had given us this beautiful Orchid a couple of years ago.  It originally had about six blooms on it.  They all ended up dropping off.  Not sure why.  Well, through careful neglect and lack of pampering, it has grown and is now sporting three new blooms!  I call that a win!

And that is what's been happening in my little corner of the world.

A thought to carry with you . . .

Lancashire Hot Pot

Cooking in The English Kitchen today  . . .  I redid one of my very early on recipes.  Better photos and I scaled down the amounts, plus added North American measurements.  Lancashire Hot Pot.  Its one of Todd's favourite meals.

Have a great Wednesday.  I hope its filled with love and blessings.  Don't forget along the way of your day  . . .

    1. Oh yes, that is where it came from Monique! Great memory! I have been watering it about every couple of weeks, by putting a bit in the bottom of the clay pot and just putting the plastic pot back in on top of it. Sometimes I forget for weeks at a time, lol. I think what is happening on IG is people are just adding you wanting you to follow them and then they stop following you. Its not a very nice thing to do to pump up your follower numbers I don't think! I hope you haven't seen episode 2 also! (Hinterland) There are so many good shows to watch and so little time! xoxo

  3. When it comes to how we deal with grief, I am not sure a man ever understands. How could he? Women love differently, in most cases I think. I remember hanging onto this really crazy pair of pants I had made my brother during the 1960s...remember how crazy the clothing was at that time? It looked more like something a clown might wear...and he LOVED them. His life was snuffed out by a drunk driver when he was 20...and then I had those pants. I REFUSED throughout all our many moves to part with them. A lot of times my husband gave me a bad time about that. Then when my kids came along, they went into the play dress up clothes box. They played and played and played with those pants. Gave me great joy watching that. I have no idea what happened to them eventually. But hang in there girl. Get photos made or whatever it takes. Just nicely remind them that such is way cheaper than going to a therapist. Or going out to buy an entire new wardrobe like some women do at the drop of a hat. Men always seem to think in terms of dollars!! (pounds there I guess). Smarts 'em up a bit when you let them know a few things.
    Hugs, Elizabeth xoxo

    1. I am about the cheapest date to have, least expensive wife Elizabeth. I've always been that way. I get pleasure in such simple things, in just puttering. I don't go to the hairdressers, or get my nails done, or pedicures, or anything. I can't remember the last time I bought something new to wear. I know we have no money really, but that's okay with me. I did buy the photos though and I am glad that I did. They arrived yesterday and are beautiful. Love and hugs, xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
