The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, November 20, 2018

Outside my window ...
Its dark and cold, but dry. All the trees are looking very barren now, having dropped their leaves for the most part, looking like black scars upon a grey leaden sky.  It is hard to believe that we are only a little more than a month away from Christmas, and like every other year. I am not prepared in the least.  That's me!

I am thinking ...
About all the people in the world that are suffering at the moment, for one reason or another, through no fault of their own.  My heart breaks at all of the sadness, the need, the pain and the suffering. And I know it is going to get worse. There are days when I want the Saviour to come now.

In the kitchen ...

Honeyed Tomato Soup

Honeyed Tomato Soup from my new book, served with star shaped cheese and bacon toasties.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Instant Pot Classic Pot Roast, from the people at Betty Crocker.  I don't use my pressure cooker often enough and this looks really tasty.

Good to know ...

Complete guide to laundry labels.

I am creating ...

Lion Brand.  Free pattern for Poppy Flower.  For next year. I really like this one.

We all Sew.  Fabric Tortilla Warmer, that is microwave safe.  Free pattern.

Happiest Camper Homestead.  Free pattern for a washcloth soap holder.

No source, but how hard can this be. Glue a saucer to a tea cup and presto chango, you have a unique and pretty pillar candle holder.

Sublime Reflection.  Dutch Door Bullet Journal.  I love this.

Oh my Goodness ...

One of my weaknesses  . . .  but I try not to eat it very often. Its so, so, so good.

I am reading ...

The Girl in the Photograph, by Kate Riordan

When Alice Eveleigh arrives at Fiercombe Manor during the long, languid summer of 1933, she finds a house steeped in mystery and brimming with secrets. Sadness permeates its empty rooms and the isolated valley seems crowded with ghosts, none more alluring than Elizabeth Stanton whose only traces remain in a few tantalisingly blurred photographs. Why will no one speak of her? What happened a generation ago to make her vanish?

As the sun beats down relentlessly, Alice becomes ever more determined to unearth the truth about the girl in the photograph - and stop her own life from becoming an eerie echo of Elizabeth's . . .

 Just starting this.

Looking Forward to ...
Missionary Elders for dinner on Friday, Plas Hafod Ladies meal on Thursday.  Dentist today, Missionary correlation tomorrow. Thanksgiving.  Its a busy week!

Dreaming about ...

Something to watch ...

  1. Hi Marie, lovely day post and unfortunately I too could eat baklava till it comes out of my ears!

I've impressed myself this year with my Christmas organisation, I was determined to have it all done by the end of November and I'm on track, can't believe it!

So pleased Todd will get his eyes sorted before Christmas, I bet he can't wait till it's over and done with.

London was hard work, as usual, but at least Christian was speaking to us!

What a busy week ahead you've got, enjoy yourself but don't overdo it! Lot's of love xxx

    1. Oh, I am so pleased that Christian was speaking to you! I was praying that he would! Yay! You are so smart being on track like you are. Every year I say I am going to and then I let myself down! Its mostly financial. I don't have the financial freedom to do what I want when I want. Its bit by bit! Love and hugs to you! xoxo

  2. Hi, Marie! It is much the same here... cold, all the leaves down, darker days. It takes a little readjusting too after summer! And like you, I'm not very far along with Christmas preparations either... LOL! Until Advent starts, I just can't seem to do like others with much advanced Christmas preparations... Your tomato soup looks soo good and comforting--perfect autumn food! What a clever this is that tortilla warmer! We like soft tacos a lot, so that would be handy to have. How sweet is that teacup/sauces candle holder--great idea! Ooo... baklava--dangerously good...mmm...You read such interesting book. I always enjoy seeing what you're reading! Happy week, my friend... LOVE YOU HEAPS!! :))) ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  6. I love the photo of Charles Dickens home. It's amazing that it looks so good. I find your corner of the Kingdom photos so fun. It's one of the few ways that I get to view England.
It's cold here too and we may get snow this weekend. I'm not ready for the cold.
The food you posted looked yummy. I love a good pot roast and Tomato Soup is my favorite.
