The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, March 13, 2018

Outside my window...
Its light out and perfectly overcast. I am very late getting up this morning. 6:30 instead of 5:30. I am way behind this morning on everything!  DUH! I must have been very tired.

I am thinking ...
I really need to be getting rid of some of my books, with a lot of my books. I have tried selling them. Nobody wants to buy them.  I guess I will just have to cart them off to the charity shop. Most are expensive, brand new, hardly touched cookbooks. Its a shame, but I can't leave them for Todd to deal with should anything happen to me.

In the kitchen ...

A delicious Muesli Bread that I made with some muesli, stogged full of lovely dried blueberries, cranberries and chopped dried apricots, also almonds and pecans.  This was gorgeous!
On my "To Cook" list ...
Ginger Chicken with Honey Lemon Glaze from Carlsbad Cravings.  This looks fabulously tasty and its baked not fried!

Good to know ...

From Premeditated Leftovers, how to deep clean your dishwasher.
I am creating ...

Eye Candy from Mary Janes Tea Room.  How hard can it be to figure out.  These Easter Egg Cosies are so cute.
Delicately beautiful poncho. Love this. From Lets Knit.
Granny crochet Christmas Tree ornies from Love Crochet.
Tutorial for these beautiful crochet squares done with cotton yarn from Dada's Place.
Scrap Buster pouches. From Elizabeth Andre.  These would be great done in Christmas colours to hang on the tree, and put a small gift or some money in.

Vintage Floral Slipper Pattern. Not free, but very lovely. On Maggies Crochet.
I am reading ...

All The Best People, by Sonja Yoerg

An intricately crafted story of madness, magic and misfortune across three generations from the author of The Middle of Somewhere and House Broken...

Vermont, 1972. Carole LaPorte has a satisfying, ordinary life. She cares for her children, balances the books for the family's auto shop and laughs when her husband slow dances her across the kitchen floor. Her tragic childhood might have happened to someone else. But now her mind is playing tricks on her. The accounts won't reconcile and the murmuring she hears isn't the television. She ought to seek help, but she's terrified of being locked away in a mental hospital like her mother, Solange. So Carole hides her symptoms, withdraws from her family and unwittingly sets her eleven-year-old daughter Alison on a desperate search for meaning and power: in Tarot cards, in omens from a nearby river and in a mysterious blue glass box belonging to her grandmother.

An exploration of the power of courage and love to overcome a damning legacy, All the Best People celebrates the search for identity and grace in the most ordinary lives.

Enjoying this very much so far.

Looking Forward to ...
My Hospital appointment on Friday, and trying hard not to be anxious.

Dreaming about ...

Light, airy, wood floors and lots of space  . . .

A window over the sink . . .  and those taps, the fittings, the floor, back splash  . . .  all of it.

  1. Hi, Marie! Sometimes we all need a lie-in, even just an extra hour! ;) You are brave to give up a lot of your books. We are very bookish folk, and konw how hard that as, when we did that a few years ago. We still have quite a lot, I think, and could whittle it down more. Oh, that muesli bread looks good! Cute crochet eggs cozies...the scrapy pouches too. How LOVELY those vintage-style slippers! LOVE the pom pom trim on that blind--fund idea! Very interesting novel you're reading now. Don't think I've come across that on. Wishing you all wonderful there... and praying your appointment on Friday will go well! LOVE YOU LOTS, my friend! :))) ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  2. We had the time change, Springing forward one hour this past Sunday and ever since, I've felt I've needed more sleep. Whether going to bed an hour earlier or sleeping in later in the morning. I'm trying to gain that lost hour back. Hope your appointed goes well and praying always.

Those pouches would be cute for a girls party with a little keepsake..like earrings. Good to give to bridesmaid's also with necklace. Even to put a little pillow sachet in a drawer. Cute.

    That book sounds interesting!

I'm praying all goes well with your appointment Friday.

    1. I agree there are lots of uses for those pouches Jan! I was really pleased to stumble onto them! Thanks so much for your prayers. Yesterday was also a good day and I didn't need to use my spray at all. Praise God! You are getting a lot of snow. I know it is snowing in Nova Scotia also, and I am concerned about it as my mom has to travel because of her operation tomorrow. I am hoping she can get through. Love and hugs, xoxo
