The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, October 10, 2017

Outside my window...
Its dark but not as cold as it has been.  Mr Spider is gone as the window washer was here yesterday and he washed him away.

I am thinking ...
Nobody can come to my teaparty. Wondering if its because they are really busy or if its because I had a Witch theme to it.  It doesn't matter really. Now I have decorations for our car boot if we choose to go to the Trunk & Treat at the chapel.

In the Kitchen ...

Sheetpan Chicken Dinner.  Simple and delicious. It all cooks on one pan. Easy peasy and sized just for two or one with leftovers.  Cooks in about half an hour. So quick as well!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Buffalo Chicken Pot Pie.  From Will Cook For Smiles.  This looks very tasty!  It also looks very simple and quick to make.

Good to know ...

Twenty Two Words.  20 simple styles for long hair.

I am creating ...

I am making my mom a shawl for Christmas using some of my real wool stash.  I thought she could put it over her shoulders and it might help keep her warmer on the cold winter nights coming up.  Found this pattern here. I opted to buy the PDF, which was quite inexpensive. Its hard to know what to get for my mom as she has pretty much everything she needs.

These little knitted mice ornaments are really cute.  From Alan Dart. A free download.

Tart Tin Christmas Ornament. NO pattern, just eye candy. Looks simple enough to copy however.

The House that Lars Built.  Free pattern.  DIY Gingerbread Gift Boxes. There is also a video tutorial.

From Crochet 365.  Nice border.

I am reading ...

AMERICAN WIFE, by Curtis Sittenfeld
A kind, bookish only child born in the 1940s, Alice Lindgren has no idea that she will one day end up in the White House, married to the president. In her small Wisconsin hometown, she learns the virtues of politeness, but a tragic accident when she is seventeen shatters her identity and changes the trajectory of her life. More than a decade later, when the charismatic son of a powerful Republican family sweeps her off her feet, she is surprised to find herself admitted into a world of privilege. When her husband unexpectedly becomes governor and then president, she discovers she is married to a man she both loves and fundamentally disagrees with--and that her private beliefs increasingly run against her public persona. As her husband’s presidency enters its second term, Alice must confront contradictions years in the making and face questions nearly impossible to answer.

This is the second time I have read this. I enjoyed it so much the first time, I am reading it again. Very well written and engaging.

Looking for my next read however.  Any suggestions for a good book to read??

I am looking forward to ...
We are planning on going to the Temple tomorrow.  fingers crossed nothing happens to prevent us from going again.

Dreaming About ...

A cottage balcony  . . .

A bedroom under the eaves . . .

An evening fire with tea and crumpets  . . .

Something to Watch  ...

Bridget Jones Baby. Other than the gratuitous use of the "F" word and some premarital relations (tastefully done) this was a really cute movie.  Question, do people really use the "F" word that much in real life these days???

A quote for the day ...

  2. I used to have an eat in kitchen, but no longer. I must use the big one in the dining room and more and more I find my self eating in front of the tv instead. I do miss it but still I do have a nice kitchen, just not big enough for my small table. It's now in my craft nook so I'm still making good use of it. That place with the fountain looks like a wonderful place to visit. Happy Tuesday to you !

  3. Hi Marie~

Oh, I loved your daybook, so many wonderful things to look at and to ponder on!

Of course, anything about comfort food gets my attention, I really need to try the one pan chicken recipe, yum!

I made my mother a shawl one year for Christmas, I'm not sure she uses it, but I do see it draped over her recliner when I visit, so she must like it. She is in a memory care unit in a care center, so I'm sure she likes it, but can't remember where she got it...bless her sweet little heart. I love the color you have chosen for your mother's shawl, very pretty.

It is time to think about Christmas isn't it. I try every year to make it a little less hurried and a lot more meaningful. I love the little tart tin ornament, it's just precious!

I hope you make it to the temple with no problems, such peace and comfort inside of those beautiful walls. Enjoy!

I love your cottage rooms and windows, just my style....ahhhh.

I do know people who use the, "f" word very frequently, I think it's such a despicable word. a dear friend of mine, who left the church for unknown reasons, has decided that she should use that word . . . seriously, she is almost 60 years old, it just makes my heart hurt! I have often wondered why they have to put it in movies!? So many wonderful movies are absolutely ruined by the use of it. sadly, I have learned to just block it out. I have heard that, Bridget Jones Baby is a cute show, I will have to check it out.

    Adorable rainbow dress!!

    Have a great day, Marie!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

  4. I thought the same Monique, RZ did not look much like herself in this! all I could think of as well was her short marriage to Kenny Chesney, and why it didn't work out. I don't know why already beautiful women have to mess so much with their faces. But maybe if I was a Hollywood star I might also be tempted. It must be a tough field of competition. I can just see you in one of those ponytails. Cute! xoxo

We eat in front of the TV more often than not as well Pam! we got rid of our large table because when it was pulled out there wasn't enough room to sit around it comfortably anyways, so we just have a small one now and now there isn't enough room to put everything out on it and eat. lol. We can't win! xoxo

Thanks Barb, I am sure you mum uses it and one day you will catch her wearing it. Love and hugs, xoxo
