My Friday Finds . . .

A few of the things I discover each week that inspire me to want to create, think, do, watch, read, etc. Maybe they will do the same for you.

Slow cooker Steak and Potato Soup from Plain Chicken. I love steak and potato soup.  If I buy chunky soup in a can, this is the one I get.  I would rather make my own and will try this for sure. It looks great!

22 Nifty Things To Do with Pill Bottles. From  104 Homestead

The Beginners Guide to making your own Kefir.  From Reform Stead. It is supposed to be a natural anti-biotic.

The Benefits of Fermented Foods.  From Health Central.  Why fermented foods are good for you.  I just wish I could get past the fear of giving myself food poisoning.

How to make your own herbal remedies.  From I Love Herbalism. Easy, fun and inexpensive.

Sweet and Spicy Onion Marmalade.  This sounds great!  From An Oregon Cottage.  I love this blog!

And those are my finds for this week.  I hope you found something useful here.  I am off to have some blood tests done this morning.  One for my Diabetic check up and another to check on my anoemia.  Fingers crossed both are a.o.k.

Have a great Friday!!  After my blood tests I will be very busy re-cooking some recipes from my cookbook so that I can take better photos. I have the completed manuscript now and we are tweaking.  Its going to be soooo nice.  I am so excited about it.  Along the way of your day don't forget!

  1. I hope the blood tests are fine. I loved so many things on today's blog. I am very unsure about fermenting foods at home. People have been doing it for a long time so why I am so fearful.

At present I am so disappointed with myself. I have something to mail to you...not done, knitting to finish...not done, a baby dress to finish for tomorrow...not done...my bullet journal has not been touched since May. I hope I find my mojo sometime soon.

God bless you all. Hugs too.

  2. OH to be positive I have made my share of the treats for Pip's baby shower tomorrow. Mars bar slice, weet bix slice, Pip has made cup cakes. The sandwich fillings are ready. The big cake needs to be decorated and Pip has her own idea. Sandwiches to be made and scones too.

  3. Hi Marie, lovely finds again. Im trying to get into doing a bullet journal but I keep forgetting! I'll have a closer look at this one for inspiration!

Went to see Dunkirk yesterday. It was really moving, although personally I think the real thing would have been a lot, lot worse. The only thing was, at the very beginning of the film my sister in law, who was sitting next to me, jumped sky high and screamed at a really loud explosion and threw her full, hot cup of coffee everywhere! Well I couldn't stop laughing all the way through the film! Fortunately it was the matinee and there wasnt many people in there to disturb, plus it was that loud no-one could hear me!

Good luck with the blood tests. Lots of love xxx

  4. Hi, Marie! Hope all well with your blood tests! :) Oooo... love that pom pom-edged tree skirt--very fun! So pretty is that journal (Beverly Marsh Tumbler). I'm try to go more paper-less... but I still keep a written journal. Great with the foodie focuse here today, Marie. Pickles--I LOVE pickles! It's hard to get cucumbers for pickling here, though. Next year I hope to grow our own. Kefir is very popular here. You can get it in supermarkets, like other dairy products. I personally don't like drinking it, but I use it a lot in baking. I like fermented food--sauerkraut, or kimchee...mmm... Your lasagna looks sooo good--gotta make one weekend soon! That bouque of grape hyacinths and chamomile flowers is sooo sweet... Happy Weekend to you all there! LOVE YOU LOTS! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  7. I do like the looks of those bullet journals and had recently heard about them from another blogger. The only journaling I do these days is on my blogs. I don't have time for much of anything else...so much to do so little time. I rarely get half done in a day that I would like to do. I try to choose the most important and go from there. Hope you have a lovely day and the tests go well. Happy Friday!

  9. Weetbix slice is very easy. I know there is a difference to the shape of weetbix between Aus and UK but I hope it won't make a difference.

Melt 125 g butter (I tend to be generous with this). Mix in 3 crushed weetbix (this is about 1 cup I measured it so I could use up the bits the bottom of the bag that no one wanted), 1 cup self raising flour, 3/4 cup of brown sugar ( don't pack firmly. Put it in a lined tray and press down a little. Bake at 170 for 20 minutes. Decorate as you like. I think I will put lemon icing on the thing in the morning as the mars bar slice is chocolatey.

Mars bar slice is easy too. I work it by ratio now but the first recipe I had was this.

Melt three 60g mars bars with 60 grams of butter. Be careful here as it takes a while to become cohesive and poor Pip burnt her last batch. Then mix in three cups of rice bubbles When well mixed press into a lined tray and leave to set. I drizzle darker chocolate over this. Yummy and too sweet.

MAybe you might make these but these were my children's favourites. There were a few more but these are easy and the mars bar slice is always popular.
