When my children were growing up they belonged to a church group called Awana. Here is Bruce's Awana membership card. It's official! This is over 20 years old. I used to be an Awana leader as well. Oh the memories . . .
With Mother's Day being only a week and a half away, this was kind of nice to find . . .
Made me cry just a tiny bit. Could this be the Cosmos telling me something??? I don't know . . . in any case its going into my memory box of things to hand down . . .
My temporary Temple Recommend to attend the Cornerstone Ceremony and Dedication of the Halifax, Nova Scotia Temple. I hadn't been in the church for very long at that point. Only 4 months. We had to be there at 8 a.m. That's an early start because we would have had to get up at about 5 to be there.
I remember being very excited about this. The Saints in the Maritime Provinces had been waiting for a Temple for a very long time. Prior to this the closest Temples had been in either Toronto or Washington DC. This was a very special occasion for us, and to be able to attend the dedication of a new Temple is a special thing for a Latter Day Saint full stop. You don't get to do that very often. Our prophet at the time was President Gordon B Hinckley and I was standing very close to him when he laid the cornerstone. It was a very special occasion. Happy memories indeed!
This also made me smile bigtime. My son Douglas had sent an e-mail both to myself and his dad to announce that he and his wife Kayla were expecting their first baby. I love that he sees it within God's plan for them. They had not long been married, only the July before and they had only just finished Uni, and were not really set up yet. It was such an exciting time for them and I am so grateful that he chose to include me at the very start. That baby was our Jonathan. There have been two more since then, Joshua and Jacob.
Its hard to believe that Jon will be turning 11
in just a few days now!
Time flies!

A handwritten recie for Carrot Cake Jam from my Aunt Freda to me . . . oh how I loved to see her hand writing . . . and to read with Love to Alice, and the xx oo Aunt Freda was always my favourite Aunt, more like a big sister to me. She died about 10 years ago now. Oh how I miss her. Finding this was like receiving a very special hello from someone I loved very much. Thank you God . . .
A Letter to Santa Claus from Eileen. She wants her own TV in her room with Cable, and a bike for Bruce and a tracing book for Doug. I love it!
A newspaper clipping from 1993, having something to do with the 4H club. That would be Bruce who was 5 years old in this, Amanda who would be 14, and Eileen who would be 15. (Part of the year they were 2 years apart and another part only one year apart in age.) Oh, it did make me smile.
Like sands through the hourglass . . . so are the days of our lives. (Sorry to borrow that from a soap opera, but it fits.) They're all grown up now, married, some of them parents. My babies. I love them all so very much and am so proud of who they have each become. They are good people, and a very important part of my life. Always have been. Always will be.
I so loved finding these things. Into my treasure box they go.
A thought to carry with you . . .

I love looking at old letters..discovering things:)
ReplyDeleteHope you find the recent stuff..hate that..I am relentless and just keep looking!
I 've spent half my life searching for things that I put in a safe place. Glad you found such great treasure doing your search. That would certainly brighten ones day! Hope you have great lunch with your friends. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteMarie I understand the putting somewhere safe problem. One lady suggested that a person should have one safe place. I would call the hospital and ask for them to confirm the appointments. Our local hospitals now send sms reminders which are very very handy.
ReplyDeleteGod bless your days ladies. From the middle of the Coral Sea, Queenlans, Australia.
I am sure it is staring us in the face Monique! But we are being so relentless we can't find it. We need to pray to St Anthony! (That's what my Aunt Thelma would have said! The finder of lost things! xoxo)
ReplyDeleteI am like you Pam, I am always putting things into a safe place, never to find them again, lol! xoxo
That sounds like a good idea Suzan. Imagine the middle of the coral sea. Lucky you! xoxo
