The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

 FOR TODAY, April 18, 2017

Outside my window ...
The sun is up, the birds are singing on a cool, but dry Spring day.

I am thinking ...
I hope that Todd got a good night's sleep last night. He had a sore tummy yesterday in the afternoon. I made him some ginger tea using fresh gingerroot and sweetened with honey.  It did the trick. You never know what is a side effect from the radiotherapy, or what isn't. It all upsets me, but we just have to get on with things and through each day that passes, hoping that the next day is a better one.

In the kitchen ...

Mock Lasagne Casserole.  An oldie from a cookery book I bought back in the early 1970's!  Delicious!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Triple Chocolate Scones, from Sally's Baking Addiction. Those do look good.

 Good to know ...

How To Get Organized at Home.  How to tackle mould on window-sills.

 I am creating ...

Knot Your Nana's Crochet, an easy market bag.

Make a birdhouse from a matchbox.  No source, just inspiration.

Floral Heart Free Printable, from Burlap and Blue. There is also a chalk board option.

Sunny Side Up Tea Towel, free pattern from NeedleworkI think it's really cute and I love anything red and white.

For art journaling. 365 one word prompts.  From Art Journalist.

 Tumblr. Bullet Journal Header/Divider designs.

I am reading ...

The Midwife's Revolt, by Jodi Daynard

On a dark night in 1775, Lizzie Boylston is awakened by the sound of cannons. From a hill south of Boston, she watches as fires burn in Charlestown, in a battle that she soon discovers has claimed her husband’s life.

Alone in a new town, Lizzie grieves privately but takes comfort in her deepening friendship with Abigail Adams. Soon, word spreads of Lizzie’s extraordinary midwifery and healing skills, and she begins to channel her grief into caring for those who need her. But when two traveling patriots are poisoned, Lizzie finds herself with far more complicated matters on her hands—she suspects a political plot intended to harm Abigail and her family. Determined to uncover the truth, Lizzie becomes entangled in a conspiracy that could not only destroy her livelihood—and her chance at finding love again—but also lead to the downfall of a new nation.

Cracking read!

I am looking forward to ...

  1. Good morning to you Marie. Your time is about to become so exciting. Guests and things to do. I hope it all exceeds expectations. I am waiting to hear of your adventures.

I have had mini disaster. I tried a new recipe that used many different ingredients. It was super salty and since I had added one tiny pinch of salt with the onions and celery etc at the beginning I can only think that it was all in the commercial stuff. Oh well live and learn. Pip and I went to Ikea today to drool and explore. I walked out having spent only $4. That was a huge achievement for me.

God bless your day and I pray that Todd's results are terrific too.

  2. Hello, Dear Marie! Belated Easter greetings, my sister-friend! He is Risen... Hallelujah! I'm just getting to visit after a very busy Easter weekend of Mass, blessings, celebrating, feasting and visiting... So very glad to catch up with you here, finally. :) Hoping Todd is doing OK... It's a pity he's not a fan of chocolate, as I'm sure one of those chocolate scones would help. ;) I like that crochet bag--especially the color! I made a crochet bag similar to that last year--great to have for shopping days! That floral heart printable is so pretty. I'd like to try something like that on my own in watercolors--nice way to learn technique, me thinks. WOW, your current reading sounds really good! The life and times of John and Abigail Adams fascinates me... must add to my list! So wonderful with your trip to Scotland--June is not far off! And such goodies besides for you this week, and beyond--so glad for you! :) Have a terrific visit with your friends! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  4. I have only ever been to Ikea once Suzan, and I could have spent a fortune, but did not have it to spend so didn't. Not having money is a great expenditure curber! lol Nowadays I don't add salt to anything much. I just tell people to taste and add it at the table. That's the best way. God bless your evening! xoxo

Thanks Tracy! He is indeed risen. I am so grateful for that! Sounds like you had a very full weekend! I think with Todd we just have to give it time and hopefully each day will bring healing and improvement. I am glad he's not a fan of chocolate, lol, more for me, lol. I am such a glutton! Love and hugs! xoxo

Yes, there is much to look forward to Monique! Sometimes that is a very good thing. I have sheets blowing on the line today, so sunny here and a little breeze blowing. Looking forward to the smell later on! The mock lasagne is a winner/winner! Enjoy! xoxo

  5. Oh, dear girl, another delightful Daybook entry! Maybe after our mission, I will do these again. I always enjoy all the things you find and give links. Thanks for sharing the link for cleaning mold on your windowsils; it was helpful.
I love that John and Lura are coming and other visitors. I would love to go to Scotland since I have ancestors from there.
I pray for Todd to get the all clear on the cancer.
Your book Midnight Revolt looks like such a good read. You do read some great books that I know I could enjoy. Maybe after our mission; I can get time to read again.
I do pray you will get to see your Dad and Mom one more time.
Seven Brides for Seven Brother's is a classic that I have watched many times; so fun!
Well off I go to bed! I love your thoughts today. Love and hugs~
