Saturday this and that . . .

I woke up this morning to news that a terrorist had mown down people in Stockholm with a beer truck. This is frightening stuff.  How do you fight an enemy who uses things like cars, trucks, planes, etc. to kill and maim?  I cannot comprehend the ethos of such a mentality or religion. I really can't. It is foreign to everything I know to be true about God, our Heavenly Father, the exact opposite to what He is . . . it makes me really, really sad. So we will talk about brighter things . . .

I hope that she doesn't mind me showing you.  This is my sister's first attempt at water colours.  Clearly she has a great talent for this!  I am so proud of her efforts and cannot wait to see how her talent develops.  When we were children she used to do sketches of horses.  Horses were her favourite thing.  She wanted to marry a horse when she grew up.  This is far better than my first efforts ever were.   I think it is pretty amazing!  I just had to show you.

I've started a new crochet project. All week while we have been watching television I have been winding balls of yarn.  It is a very soothing exercise to wind balls of yarn.  Mindless really.  I love the way the yarn feels as it runs through my fingers. I wasn't sure about these colours, but I quite like the end result. It will be a granny square blanket I think. Granny squares are very much a portable project that you can carry with you wherever you go. Granny squares are also something you don't really need to think about while you are doing them.  Again, quite mindless.

Our pear tree is adrift with bloom at the moment. So very beautiful.  There is a lot of promise there. It seems to go from strength to strength with each year that passes, giving us more and more.  There are a few blooms on the plum tree also.  It doesn't do quite as well, and the apple tree . . .  well, last year it was pretty much a lost cause. I think we got four apples altogether, maybe this year will be better. We will see.

Last night was black and white night for us. We watched a whole bunch of our favourite old black and white television shows.  We both really enjoy these.  We remarked at the end of one that each show seemed to have a moral thread running through it. A lesson taught.  For instance the Leave It To Beaver episode we watched was one where, having watched Wally get lots of attention and goodies having had to stay home from school sick one day, Beaver decides that he is going to be sick the next day so that he can get some gifts and attention. Of course it doesn't work out and the Doctor who comes to see him tells him the story about the "Boy Who Cried Wolf."  We wondered at how many children even know the story about "The Boy who Cried Wolf "these days . . .  I know these shows portray an "Ideal" America  . . . but they sure make you feel good when you are watching them, and yearn for a better, kinder, simpler world.

Mitzi came back all buffed and puffed yesterday and smelling sweet.  I love it when she has just been to the groomers. She is always so excited to be back home again and she tells me all about it.  First in shouts and then in more dulcet tones. I wish I could understand exactly what she is saying, but I kind of get the idea.  It's not her favourite thing, especially the ear plucking . . .

The whole thing leaves her quite, quite exhausted . . .  poor thing.  We had lots of cuddles after as well.

I also spent a goodly part of yesterday afternoon revising.  Its all a part of the book writing process and why you have an editor. You write the book, then they pick it apart and make suggestions for edits. I did four chapters of revisions.  Not a lot to do, but still time consuming!  And you try not to take it personally, but its hard not to. lol  You can't help it.  At the end of the day however, you know this is their job and they know what sells and what reads better than you do, so you go with the flow.  And you start regretting having been so prolific, lol

Plus I had a couple of nice conversations with
my daughter and an old friend on facebook,
which drove me kind of mental
at the time, because
there were
two of
them!

YIKES!

But I managed, somehow, and Todd grumbled because he hates me doing the iPad thingie when we are supposed to be watching something. I don't blame him, but I don't know how to say no and I am grateful my daughter wants to talk to me.

A thought to carry with you through today  . . .

And I managed to bake a cake.  A Low Sugar Lemon Drizzle Cake.

Have a wonderful Saturday.  I am not sure I will have time to write much tomorrow morning, so don't be surprised or worried if I end up taking the day off. I don't have a lot of time on Sunday mornings and its always a bit of a struggle!  Don't forget  . . .

  1. Hello Marie,

Mitzie looks lovely and I am sure she needed her cuddles. I had a dog who ran away from the groomers. We eventually got him back . I do think some dogs find it stressful.

My day has been pretty quiet. I am having daughter troubles and the behaviour has left me exhausted. After I took Pip to meet some friends at the shopping centre I took mum out for lunch. After the storm a few weeks ago vegetable prices have risen. Mum and I spent over $55 for a week's worth of fruit and vegetables. somethings I can eat frozen or out of a tin but we often buy fresh and then have to commit to eating it all.

Have a lovely Saturday and if Sunday is too rushed I am sure that everyone understands.

God bless you and keep you.

  2. There are pear trees blooming here too. They are a beautiful sight to see. You are blessed to have one. Here I have oak trees and a maple that will make for some lovely shade, but no blossoms. Hope you have a beautiful Saturday !

  4. I know all about daughter problems Suzan. Hope yours can be much easier sorted than mine! Love and hugs, xoxo

Just think of how beautiful that oak and maple will look in the autumn Pam! Two of the most beautiful autumn trees that we don't have very many of over here! Hope your Saturday is going well! xoxo

Thanks Monique. I got it! Happy that you are getting some much needed sunshine, and yes, my sister is amazing. This is her very first try with watercolours! As far as I know she has never painted anything before! xoxo

  5. This was a fun one! I love your Grannie Squares; the colors are beautiful. My hands always aches when I roll yarn; maybe I do it wrong. Your sisters art work; is awesome! You both must have the gene. I personally think it is gift from Heaven that sometimes comes down in families. My husband and oldest son are good artists and my grandson is really good.
I love old movies and we watch black and white ones once in a while. I did love Leave it to Beaver; so fun!
We just have an apple tree that is starting to bud. However, it is snowing right now so I hope it makes it through the freeze. Good luck on your trees.
Mitzie is so adorable. I too love it when Sammy comes home from the groomer. They are just so fluffy and I think they know they are cute too.
Happy that you are able to talk with your daughter often. Since being on our mission, I don't hear from my children as much. I feel sad. They can call but I think they feel they are taking up too much time. I call them when it gets too long between calls.
Have a sweet Sabbath Day dear friend! Hugs~

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
