My favourite things . . . .

These are a few of my favourite things. Maybe some of them are your favourite things too!

Hot Cross Bun French Toast.  Seriously I made this last Saturday for Breakfast and we were in French Toast Heaven.  Here is a link to the recipe.  You NEED to make this before the shops run out of hot cross buns!

Wisteria.   We used to have some at the back of our cottage down South. It was gorgeous in the Spring.  This is a street in Freiburg, Germany.  It is amazing.  The whole street is an arbour of Wisteria.  It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.  The whole city was amazing actually.

Katie Alice Tea Sets, with the cup, saucer and tea plate.   I have four of them that I have collected in the Ditsy Rose pattern.  Although I don't drink black tea, I do drink herbal infusions and enjoy them.  There is nothing nicer than enjoying a cup of herbal tea and some choice morsels on a tea plate. It is pretty special.

Mind you, I love
Katie Alice
anything
...

Printed handkerchiefs.  They are so very pretty. People don't use handkerchiefs anymore.  Paper tissues are much cleaner I think.  But how lovely to have a cloth one to dab the corner of your eye with when the tears threaten to flow.  Very gone with the wind  . . .

A good leather shoe. Sturdy. Walkable. Classic.

Maps. I love maps. I have always loved maps. Oh, I know we have satellite navigator systems now, but you still can't beat a good map. I think the two go hand in hand.  Sometimes a map is even better because it can show you an alternate route that might be better, especially if there are road works going on.

Lace anything  . . .  curtains, linens  . . .  pockets.  Is this not beautiful?

Embroider.  Bows.  Beading.  The three all together in one item.  Bliss.

Really good bread.  I wish I was better at making my own bread.  One of the thing I loved about visiting Germany and France was the bread.  The bread back home is a lot sweeter than the bread here.  I noticed it when I was home the last time. I prefer my bread not so sweet now.

Scissors.  Especially embroidery Scissors and small paper cutting scissors. I have a thing about scissors.  I have kitchen scissors, dress making scissors, pinking shears, paper cutting scissors (big and small) and embroidery scissors.   It really annoys me if someone uses the wrong scissors for the wrong purpose. (TODD!)  I am pedantic about which scissors get used for which purpose.

Quality stationary.  With matching lined envelopes.  I love stationary. I have always loved stationary.  I don't write many letters these days, but I love stationary.

Stickers, especially pretty ones.  I love to decorate envelopes and wrapping papers with them.  They make packages, letters, etc. much nicer and more interesting.

Pretty bookmarks  . . . I love them.  Susan Branch often offers printable bookmarks for free.  I always save them. I just love bookmarks.  I read very few paper books these days, but I still like bookmarks!

Puff Pastry.  I adore puff pastry.  All of those melt in your mouth crisp layers.  When I was a girl we used to buy Vachon puff pastries with caramel and whipped cream fillings.  They were so good.  I cannot remember what they were called.  I can remember being at my grandmaman's and eating puff pastry in bowls with lots of cream and caramel on it, homemade.  It was delicious.  I have always been a foodie!

And those are my favourite things for this week!

A thought to carry with you  . . .

In The English Kitchen today . . .  Caramel Stuffed Chocolate Cookies.  Seriously tasty.  Seriously dangerous!

Have a great Thursday.  I think we are changing our fish tank today.  It has been taken over with snails, more than we can possibly cope with.  I have been killing at least 20 a day and still they come.  Yesterday I noticed that the water filter was filled with them.  So disgusting.   It is beyond coping with now . . .  so we are going to start with a fresh new tank, filter, etc.  Fingers crossed we don't kill our fish and we get rid of the snails.  Hope your day is a good one!  Don't forget  . . .

  2. WE have started over twice with the snails now Monique and they have followed somehow into the fresh tank. This time we are buying everything new, except for the fish. Here's hoping we can finally get rid of them. I don't know what else to do. Yesterday when we were cleaning the filter, it was LOADED, seriously loaded with them. Must have been hundreds. one or two, or even half a dozen I could have coped. I took one look and said to Todd, enough. We are losing this battle. You will have lots of Grand-daughter's in law that will love the tea sets Monique. I am not going any more than four, well, perhaps I need two more, one for each grandchild. WE will see! xoxo

  4. Oh so many drool worthy things. I love the dress. I must admit that i have a love for stationary. I love thick paper, pens, my two beautiful fountain pens, coloured pencils, stickers and stamps. I need to write more. I was doing well with the bullet journal thing until I became depressed of late.

I wish you the happiest of days. Lots of love and I ask our dear Lord to bless you and keep you.

  5. Hi Marie. Oh the Wisteria is beautiful. When we were in Richmond last weekend the Wisteria there was amazing. It was adorning the beautiful cottages, I've never seen anything like it. So sorry I didn't take a photo.

    Good luck with the snails!!!

    Lots of love xxx

  6. I know, it is just beautiful Sandy! I am in love with it . . . xoxo

You and I have a lot in common Suzan! No surprise there! I hope and pray that you are able to shake the black dog soon. Love and hugs. xoo

Thanks Kate! Wisteria is such a beautiful flower, but you almost need a lovely home to enhance it! I don't think it would quite have the same effect where I live in Blacon! xoxo

  7. I think you are supposed to let the water in the new tank sit for a couple of days before adding the fish, and I would be really, really careful not to transfer any water from the old tank. Do snails do eggs? I don't know anything about them, but just in case there is some sort of invisible spawn in the old tank water. We had a tank for many years and never had snails. They must come in on fish you buy? We also had some sort of fish thing that cleaned the tank, sort of. Do not remember what it was called. Fish tanks are so relaxing to watch. Better than tv, cause no adverts.

  8. Try a clown loach fish. They eat the snails. Also, be careful if you put in live plants, they often come in on those, or with fish.

  9. We never had any either excentric until we brought in a live plant and its been getting worse and worse and worse since. We got rid of the live plants, but it was too late. I am not transferring any water at all from the old tank and we are letting the tank sit until Saturday afternoon, when we will do the transfer. We have two zebra snails that clean the walls, but they are safe. We love watching the fish. As you say better than tv! xoxo

I will be on the look out for one of those Raquel! No more live plants for us! xoxo
