The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

 FOR TODAY, March 15, 2017

Outside my window ...
The sun is completely up.  It was up when I got up at 5:30.  The days are getting noticeably longer.  Yay Spring! (Although I am dreading the clock change in two weeks time.  I always hate the Spring one.)  Sorry for my absence yesterday!  We had no internet until the afternoon!  Talk talk was having a problem I guess.  By the time it came back up again, I had too many other things I needed to crack on with!

I am thinking ...
How utterly dependant I am upon the Internet.   A lot of what I do needs to be online in order to do it.  How did that happen?  How can I change that?   I dunno  . . . but it is a bit disconcerting.

In the kitchen ...

It might look a bit like a dog's dinner but it isn't.  Bean & Sausage Hot Pot.  A layer of cooked potato, some herbed onions, smoked sausage, BBQ beans and cheese, all baked together.  Delicious!
 Family friendly and simple too!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Authentic Hungarian Walnut Rolls from American Heritage Cooking.   These look fabulously delicious and almost dangerous!

Good to know ...

From My Childhood Treasures. Seam finished you can do without a serger.

I am creating ...

Crochet Egg Cosy Chickens from Ravelry.  Cute!

Turn your cream eggs into these delightful sheep!  From The Pink Whisk.  Cute!

Organising with Trash.  How to recycle your recyclables decoratively.  From Lemons, Lavendar and Laundry.

Positively Splendid.  Bunny Pants Treat Bags.  So cute!

Left In Knots.  I love the bright colours of this scarf.  Tis very pretty.

 I am reading ...

The Little Princesses, by Marion Crawford

The touching and ground-breaking account of the Queen and Princess Margaret's childhood by their nanny, with a foreword by former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond. In little more than fifty years the regard with which the Royal Family are held has changed out of all recognition. Their private lives are now the stuff of soap opera and it seems any one who comes into contact with them sells their story to the magazines or to the newspapers.

Marion Crawford, 'Crawfie', as she was known to the Queen and Princess Margaret, became governess to the children of the Duke and Duchess of York in the early 1930s, little suspecting she was nurturing her future Queen. Beginning at the quiet family home in Piccadilly in the early 1930s and ending with the birth of Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace in 1948, Crawfie tells how she brought the princesses up to be 'Royal' whilst also exposing them to the ordinary world of underground trains, buses and swimming lessons.

THE LITTLE PRINCESSES was published in 1950 to a furore we cannot imagine today. Crawfie was demonised by the press, and the Queen Mother, who had been a great friend and who had, Crawfie maintained, given her permission to write the account, never spoke to her again.

An utterly charming depiction of a wholsome childhood in a loving family. Loving this.

I am looking forward to ...
Relief Society Activity on Friday evening. (If I can get a lift.)  It is the RS Birthday celebration and sounds like it will be fun.

Dreaming About ...

Bird's nest necklaces and pearls . . .

Listening to the ocean  . . .

A gingerbread cottage on Martha's Vineyard  . . .

Bermuda beaches  . . .

 An edible garden  . . .

Something to watch ...

Life Unexpected on Netflix.  Loving it.

 It's true!

One of my favourite things  ...

Vintage Disney . . . anything.  When I was over here meeting Todd for the first time we were walking and I found a pewter Micky Mouse on the ground.  I knew it was a good omen.  I still have it in my jewelry box.

Corner's of my kingdom ...

 Directions . . .  in Cumbria.

And that's my daybook for this week!

I loved the Mod Scarfs; so bright and cheerful; I think!
