Raindrops on roses . . . my favourite things

These are a few of my favourite things  . . . dolls and doll makers  . . .

This doll is amazing.  Needle felted Waldorf inspired art doll, tall about 9 inches tall.  She is made by a doll artist, Zuzuna Hochman who comes from Israel.  She has an Etsy Shop. All the little details on this are just wonderful.

Quirky and unsual, these dolls are created by Annie Montgomerie.  They have traditional doll bodiess, but animal heads. Recyled from found objects, not two are the same.

These dolls are created using vintage Liberty fabrics, buttons and trims.  They are girls, but they are also cats.  I love the brightnes of them, the fabrics, the personalities.  These were created by Mod Flowers.

These dolls are really nice as well.  Hearkening back to pioneer days I would think. Willowyn from down under.  I have purchased some of her patterns in the past for her fabric butterflies.

This fabric dog by Barbara Franc is totally amazing.  His name is Rufus.  Its not a doll per se, but a sculpture, but I could not resist showing him to you.  The amount of time that has gone into creating him is unimaginable.  You need to take a look at her page and some of the other animal creations this artist makes.  Fabulous!

I think this doll is utterly amazing also.  It looks to have a polymer clay face/head.  I know how the body has been done, but it is so whimsical and beautifully crafted.  By doll artist Lindsey from the US.  Look at those wings . . .

I love everything that Shelly Down creates.  I have been a fan of hers for a very long time and have purchased quite a few of her patterns.  Gingermelon is her brand. You can check out her blog here.  She has tons of tutorials, patterns, freebies, and she has even written a book.

This one of a kind doll is also amazing.  Doll Artist Peggy Flavin created her.  She is from Gloucester, Massachusetts. Her dolls are created in the style of Izannah Walker and also Cloth dolls from the early to mid nineteenth century.

I could not find a source for this one, but is she not amazing?  So much detail, a real museum piece.  Such talent  . . .

I am tempted to think that perhaps it is a creation of Marina Bychkova, but I don't know for sure.  She is a very talented doll artist.

These kinds of dolls fascinate me also.  They look just like real people.  Such detail, right down to the little crocheted teddy bear.  The hair, the clothes . . .  everything is just so well done.

Mind you I love the dolls I make as well.

There was this one with her own Teddy Bear.  My dear friend Angie bought her.

I think she also bought this one  . . .

Just one of the many Raggedies I made and sent away.  I have made lots of Raggedies and no two were the same . . .

My mouse dolls  . . .

My Bee Doll  . . .  she lives with Sybil . . .

My Lady Bug Doll . . .  I think I still have her  . . .

Oh, I have made tons of dolls in my lifetime. That's because
I have a love affair with dolls. They are
one of my very most
favouritest things
of all
...

A thought to carry with you through today  . . .

We have more than passed the halfway mark now of Todd's treatments.  Only 9 more to go.  They don't seem to be able to get the times of the transport down right.  He has a letter giving him the times, but they seem to show up at all different times.  Nevermind, we are just grateful for the treatments and for the transport back and forth.  Both are a God send as are your continuing prayers.  We appreciate them all so very much.  They help to lift us both up.  Thank you. ☺

We had a beautifully gorgeous sunshiny spring day yesterday.  The Sister's stopped by.  Sister Caryl has left us now and we have a new Sister from South Africa.  Sister Nyuda (I think that is her name.)  I know it begins with an Ny.  She is terrified of dogs.  Poor Mitzie.  She was relegated to the bedroom for the duration of her visit.  Poor Sister Ny.  She has come to a country filled with dog lovers and owners.

Baking in The English Kitchen today, Golden Syrup and Oatmeal Muffins.  Seriously scrumptious.

Have a great Thursday!  Wherever you go and whatever you get up to, don't forget!

  1. Amazing selection of dolls, yours as well as the others. I doubt I can make such wonders but I am going to look at the web sites.
All the best to Todd. Thank goodness you have that transport. Makes such a difference. We spent 3 months in a very basic hospital hostel. But it was free including food and the people who came and went were wonderfully basic and strong.

  2. That second 'basic' should read 'friendly'

  4. Well you know how I love, just love ALL your dolls, especially my beloved Bea girl....they are certainly a grand lot of dolls that you have found for us...you are so clever. I am so sorry for the Poor South African sister, I think, she is going to,have to get over her fear of dogs if she wants to make her mission succesful..maybe next time you could insist that she at least sits in the same room as Mitzie, she could go on her lead for that visit, then hopefully she will get a bit easier with dogs that are sure to be around..We will have to,pray that she over comes her fear......I had the most amazing FaceTime call last night, guess who it was ?....yes ! Lura, just checking up on various prices etc. She is just as lovely as I knew she was going to be, also saw John for a brief minute, he is going to be great fun I think !!M....not long now till there visit....I am away now I am trying to finish a wee Arran cardigan for a baby boy ..no one in particular but it will go to Knit for Peace, will keep some baby warm I hope....xxxx

  5. I have always loved dolls... My Miss Beazley traveled round with me for many years but somewhere on those treks she disappeared from my very small stock of belongings I was carrying on my back. I was heart broken. There's something so special about a rag doll. ♥ I was able to retrieve my Gibson Girl bride doll from my old home when I finally settled down. I must look her out, I really have no place for her to sit, her train is so long.
I too love golden syrup. I have been known to squirt a little onto my finger more than once. It's in every grocery store here in N.S. Those muffins look scrumptious too. I'm trying to be a good girl. John and I are on a diet. He's lost 10 lbs in a week and a half! I have lost 6. So, I am trying not to bake and don't I miss it.
I cannot believe that Todd is more than half way. How wonderful. Soon this will be a memory. I am praying for his complete healing. Thank you so much for keeping us updated. I think and pray for you both daily.Sending love for a peaceful and good nights sleep. Xx

  6. Oh my gosh, this was a fun post, Marie. I love dolls too and have collected them for years. I have some that are at least 60 plus yeaers old.
About 15 years ago my husband started to give me large porcelain dolls. When i was young my parents gave me story book dools through the the years. I have a brides collection.
I really enjoyed all the different dolls that you gave links to and etc. I especially liked the pioneer ones. My favorites actually are the ones you made; they are so fun. I love Raggidnee Ann and Andy dolls. I had some once and gave them to some grandchildren. Most of my larger dolls will go to my Granddaughter's when they get married, hopefully in the temple.
I think perhaps, I will do a blog on my dolls sometime.
    Thanks for sharing this one1
I am so happy that Todd is 1/2 through his treatments. You both continue in my prayers. We just had transfers with the missionaries this week and have a new sister that came from Canada. She seems like she will be an awesome missionary.
Sending prayers, love and hugs your way!

  7. Thanks Linda, the transport makes a huge difference. Not only could we not afford the petrol going back and forth each day, but Todd is far too tired. It helps to take the pressure off. He has enough to worry about without that and they are ever so kind and do their best. We feel blessed. xoxo

Thanks Monique! I am a doll lover. I keep telling myself I need to make some more of the bendy dolls also. Maybe once the book is finished! The freckled beauty does look like Lisi's art for sure! I love LOVE your paintings! You are a real talent! Mr T sends a wave! xoxo

Oh, it is so much fun to facetime with Lura Sybil! She is every bit as genuine in person. And John is a real dear. You will love him. I can't wait for Todd to finally meet them! Its been a long time coming! I fear for that poor young Missionary Sister. There are so many dogs here and she will need to get over her fear. Thanks so much for your prayers! You are a sweetheart to knit for babies in need. Love you! xoxo

Noelle, I always wanted a Miss Beazly! You were a lucky child! There is a reason the first three letters in diet are "DIE". lol Hate them! Kudos on losing six pounds. I wish I could! xoxo

I would love to see you do a doll post LeAnn! I am sure you have some beautiful ones. I was sitting here last night thinking about what I wanted my grandchildren to have. I think I will start giving away the stuff now because there will be no money to when I am gone and the distance is too far. Love you! xoxo
