The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .
FOR TODAY, April 12, 2014
Outside my window ...
The sun is fully up. I was up about an hour later this morning and missed the sun rise. Sigh . . . musta needed the extra sleep!
I am thinking ...
Sometimes I just have to wonder why people feel the need to pop someone else's balloon. Why not just live and let live. Why can't people be happy that others are . . . well . . . happy? The things I enjoy in life might not be your cup of tea . . . but why try to take that away from me? I might not like some of the things that make you happy, but I'm just happy that you're happy! That is as it should be.
I am thankful for ...
I went with another Sister yesterday to visit a member of our church Ward who is not very well at all. The sister I went with is one who is also not a well woman, but I have never seen a lady do so much for others as this very special woman does. She is such a fine example to me and always has been. I've known her for sixteen years, and we've been friends for that long as well. I have served in callings with her, been her VT partner and all sorts. I am thankful that she is my friend and for this opportunity I had to serve another with her yesterday.
In the kitchen ...
Small Batch Coffeecake Muffins. It only makes four muffins and they are fabulous!
On my "To cook" list ...
From BBC Good Food, Italian Broccoli and Salmon Bake. I love salmon and broccoli together. This recipe also includes capers and sun dried tomatoes.
I am creating ...
I think a few of these knitted hand dryer towels are going to be one of my next knitting projects. From Ravelry.
I love this counted cross stitch window embroidery pattern. Found on Postila ru. It in a foreign language. I love to embroider. This is so sweet.
A sewing machine pin cushion. What a fab idea! From I Can Find The Time.
Six things you can make from an old pair of jeans. Mother Nature Network.
These crochet circle placemats are a great beginners project. Found on Free Patterns.
You could make you rown colour scheme and what a great way to use up small bits of yarn!
I am reading ...
It's here! It's here! It's here! It came in the post yesterday! This might not be exciting to some, but it is all that and more to me!
Martha's Vinyard Isle of Dreams, by Susan Branch
The much anticipated sequel to The Fairy Tale Girl. In the winter of 1982, long before she became the watercolor artist and author we know today, Susan Branch, 34-years-old and heart-broken from the sudden and unexpected end of her marriage in California, "ran away from home" to the Island of Martha's Vineyard.
It was meant to be temporary, a three-month time-out from the daily grind of being broken up and miserable, but within days of her arrival, alone and not quite in her right mind, Susan "accidentally" bought a tiny one-bedroom cottage in the woods. And that is how she discovered she was moving 3,000 miles away from everyone and everything she had known and loved.
I could not wait to crack it open and read and finally got my chance last night after we went to bed. I did not want to put it down. It's all I hoped for and more. Entertaining. Inviting. Charming. A real page turner! A feast for all the senses. Beautiful paper that feels special beneath your fingertips. Lovely colours. Beautifully illustrated. And it came with a matching bookmark and has a ribbon bookmark built right into it.
I am looking forward to ...
We didn't get to the Temple last week because of rain, but we hope to go this week. I love to see the Temple. It is a great place to just put aside the cares of the World and be at peace . . .
I am learning ...
To let it go . . . let it go . . . this is an ongoing process. One day I will crack it.
Dreaming about ...
Fields of wild daisies . . .
Cornwall . . . can't wait!
Summer picnics . . .
Windows filled with plants and herbs . . .
Laundry hanging out days . . .
A favourite quote for the day ...

Makes me smile ...
Make a wish . . .
One of my favourite things ...
Bratwurst and sauerkraut . . . with boiled potatoes and mustard.
A peek into my day ...
I made a pie for us for our dinner last night . . . beef pot pie. It was good.
And that's my daybook for this week!

And I do too!!
Good morning Marie,
ReplyDeleteI am using the free internet at the local shopping mall. It is superfast because they have the national broadband network here. Our suburb is a well known black spot and is last on the list. Of course the government keeps downgrading the program and I think it will fritter away before it reaches our land.
I must buy those books. I have never seen them here. Do you buy them from America?
Lots of love for you day. God bless.
We are so spoiled here with very quick and affordable internet Suzan! I notice a big difference when we go back to Canada. It's very expensive in comparison! And it works well. I bought my book from her site, which meant I got it well before it came out into the shops. Amazon usually carries them also, however it is not for sale on the UK site yet. I paid for it yonks ago and am glad I did, because I would not be able to afford it now! It's a really lovely book, but then all of her books are really nice. Love and hugs! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI have knitted kitchen wash cloths before but never thought about knitting the hand towels. I use the kind that are made with regular dish towels. Thank you for the idea. How nice you have the new Susan Branch book, looks like it would be good reading. I do love pot pies too. They are a good way to use us any leftover chicken or beef roast. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteYour dough looks perfection!
ReplyDeleteI made salmon pies..but bought puff pastry..

OOOOh lucky you and the new book..I know you will love it..let me know though;)

I love hand knitted dish cloths and towels Pam! I like them far better than anything else! Must buy myself some more cotton yarn! Happy Tuesday to you! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh, Monique, I LOVE SALMON PIE! I have not made one in a long while. Must make one soon! The book is just wonderful. I was so tired in bed last night when I cracked it open and I still managed to get 30 pages read. I did NOT want to put it down!! I hope you will get it for yourself eventually! Happy Tuesday! xoxo
I must e mail you to ask how to use Pinterest..I get them posted to me every day and have looked at loads but have no idea how to ...pin...things etc...anyway I do like the look of these Yorkshire puds...and your pastry on the pie looks scrumptious....sorry I didn't get commenting yesterday but I had a.....tired.....day with very little energy, in fact I found myself going to bed around 8.30 ...better today though...I love your testimonies, they come right from your heart via your wonderful way with words...you often write exactly they way I might be thinking but can't find the right words...Hope today has been an nice one for you. The weather was lovely today sunny and even ...should I say it ?....warm !!...
ReplyDeletethe proper words
The salmon pasta looks tempting - lots of lovely ideas in your daybook today. Thanks for putting all these together, it's fun to scroll through the photos and ideas. I have no idea how much time it takes you but I appreciate it. I love the photo of Cornwall. It is a lovely place. Sometimes I miss England so much but my little island has sheep in the fields and fabulous spring flowers and cherry blossoms right now so I am very glad that I live here.

ReplyDeleteSo happy to see a comment from you Sybil! I was getting worried. Sorry you have been so tired! We haven't had much sun here. In fact it's a quagmire in the back garden again! I wish you lived closer as showing you how Pinterest works would be a lot easier! But maybe we can still figure it out! On the iPad I think you can download an ap! xoxo
ReplyDeleteNow I am wondering where your little Islan is Susan! lol It sounds like heaven! xoxo
Thanks Shortybear! xoxo
