The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .
FOR TODAY, April 5, 2016
Outside my window ...
It's still very dark, but the birds are beginning their morning chorus. I love this time of day.
I am thinking ...
About the talks I got to hear this past weekend at conference. So much to take in and I haven't listened to all of them yet. I know I have a lot more to take in yet. I picked up a thick scribbler for myself yesterday so that I can make personal notes on each of them and jot down my feelings and impressions.
I am thankful for ...
We went over to help Doreen with something yesterday afternoon. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to do things for her. Someday I may be the person who needs doing for and I hope that someone will be able and willing to do things for me as well.
In the kitchen ...
Lemon and Poppyseed Chopped Salad. This is a great salad filled with chopped strawberries, blueberries, chicken, pasta, celery, feta cheese and toasted pecans. The lemon and poppyseed dressing is faaaaaa-bulous!
On my "To Cook" list ...
From Damn Delicious some fab looking homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats. Mitzie love, LOVES peanut butter!
I am creating ...
From Empress of Dirt. DIY Soda Can Garden Charms. What a great way to recycle these into something useful.
I think these painted dish towels are pretty cute. From Dandee Designs.
Into quilts? I love this sweet heart edged lap quilt. Found on Quiltmakers. Quiltmaking is probably beyond me now, but a gal can dream . . .
From Maggies Crochet, a bluebird kitchen set to crochet. It's a to purchase pattern, but it is just adorable. There is also a Pansy one which is just as sweet and a whole lot more on the page. Love, LOVE!
From Sweetwater, these beautiful pillow case kits. I just love them. I love pillow cases and these really tick all my boxes.
I am reading ...
The Book of Lost Things, by John Connolly
High in his attic bedroom, twelve-year-old David mourns the death of his mother, with only the books on his shelf for company. But those books have begun to whisper to him in the darkness. Angry and alone, he takes refuge in his imagination and soon finds that reality and fantasy have begun to meld. While his family falls apart around him, David is violently propelled into a world that is a strange reflection of his own . . . populated by heroes and monsters and ruled by a faded king who keeps his secrets in a mysterious book, The Book of Lost Things.
Taking readers on a vivid journey through the loss of innocence into adulthood and beyond, New York Times bestselling author John Connolly tells a dark and compelling tale that reminds us of the enduring power of stories in our lives.
Part fairy tale and part psychological study.
I am looking forward to ...
Going to the Temple on Thursday. I LOVE to go to the Temple.
I am learning ...
To turn the television off and just enjoy quiet. When Todd is here the television is always on, and he doesn't necessarily have to be even watching it. The news channel. I find it quite wearing. So when he goes out I just turn it off, and enjoy the silence.
Dreaming about ...
Messy hair . . .
Bunnies on cutlery . . .
Summer wildflowers . . .
Sweet movie classics I never tire of watching . . . yes, My Girl . . . love it.
Outdoor markets on the continent . . .
A favourite quote for the day ...

How can it not . . .
One of my favourite things ...
Little men . . . especially my little men . . .
A peek into my day ...
And I think to myself . . . what a wonderful world . . .
And that's my daybook for this week!

And I do too!!
In many ways it is a wonderful world but today I am not impressed. will has been in hospital 20 hours. The hospital has been great but he hurt himself at work and the work cover people are refusing to guarantee to pay for his treatment. I have been looking at the bone and cut cartilage in his finger for 20 hours. The specialist here is furious and is now trying to get Will into surgery this evening. The kid has autism and has been trying hard to keep it together when they come at him with needles as he has a huge phobia about them. The surgeon has decided that 2 ring blocks and several clean outs are enough and that it needs to be debrided and stitched.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile I am worried about mum. She is not well enough to be on her own. Pip has helped but someone else and mum are clashing. Sorry to dump my worries here. It has been a long seven days with many hours in an ED or hospital. But such is life and I know things could be so much worse. I am waiting his father to come and sit with Will a while so I can go home and rest.
God bless your day.
Oh dear Suzan, it never rains but what it pours it seems. I will be keeping you, Will and your mum in my deepest prayers. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMorning Marie...yes good morning managed to get in first time this morning !...I so agree with you about the TV Mary has it on all day and although I try to shut it out at times it is hard and of course when she does go home around six that's the time some more interesting programmes start !..I can't win....one good thing is that on Saturday I had an eye test.....after having the two cataract operations......the optician was amazed he said he had very rarely seen such an improvement in eyes I now have 20/20 vision only prob is the reading part I need glasses to read, however they agreed to use my old glasses that I like and put clear glass on top and bifocal bits at the bottom so now at least I can read, watch TV, or knit..never again will I loose my glasses as they will be back on my face all the time !
ReplyDeleteSuze I am sorry to read that you have had such a hard time especially yesterday, praying that things are better today....
enjoyed your daybook.
ReplyDeleteHooray Sybil! For your being able to get in asap and for the good news on your eyes! Todd has the beginning of a cataract. I expect he will need an operation eventually, but not bad for almost 78 years. He is amazing to me. My vision is probably far worse than his. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks shortybear! xo
Hi, Marie! So good to catch up with you post-Easter hols! WONDERFUL salad--yum! I find myself craving salads more, and less winter-heavy foods. Those dog treats are adorable! I love how dogs love peanut butter like us humans do. :) LOVE that quilting--the aqua and red is striking together! I'm working on a quilt now, and it's a bit slow going, but very much enjoying. Your current reading some very good, serious, but fun--I like that. Wishing you a great week ahead, dear friend ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))
ReplyDeleteThat is brilliant news Sybil. Excellent.
ReplyDeleteI had a call to say the Will has gone to theatre and I am hoping his father will update me. I am gald his agonising wait is over. He had been fasted over 20 hours and was like a bear whenI left.
Me too Tracy, I am definitely a seasonal eater! I will pop over to visit you today! I hope you have a great week also. Love and hugs to you. xoxo
