The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .
FOR TODAY, November 3, 2015
Outside my window ...
It's dark, dark, dark, and cold too. I thought we were supposed to have a mild week this week. So much for the weather forcast!
I am thinking ...
I have let a very good friend down. I was trying to do something to help her out and it's all gone pear shaped, and I feel very bad about it. I don't know what to do . . .
I am thankful for ...
Some days you don't feel especially thankful. Today I am thankful for the scriptures and my faith, because they are what is going to get me through today. I hate it when you try to do the right thing and it all goes wrong.
In the kitchen ...
There is a trio of delicious fresh pastas and the sauces I made to enjoy with them. The sauces include a Browned Butter and Sage, a Spinach and Chive Pesto, and a Leek, Chili and Butter Sauce.
On my "To Cook" list ...
Creamy Chicken and Asparagus Casserole from Cosy Country Living. This looks really delicious.
I am creating ...
Cardboard Gingerbread Houses from Little Red Window. So cute!
Felt Mitten Garlands, from Nana Company.
Clay Floral Gift Tags . . . using Washi Tape. (I hope you can get Christmas Washi Tape) Found on Mahalolalena.
Free Printable Paper Ginger Bread Houses. Found on Mein Leila Park.
Putze Style Glitter houses from old Christmas Cards. I couldn't find a source for this one, but I did find an Etsy Shop where you can buy patterns for the houses, etc. The Antique Hare.
I am reading ...
Pretending to Dance, by Diane Chamberlain
When the pretending ends, the lying begins . . . Molly Arnette is good at keeping secrets. As she and her husband try to adopt a baby, she worries that the truth she's kept hidden about her North Carolina childhood will rise to the surface and destroy not only her chance at adoption, but her marriage as well. Molly ran away from her family twenty years ago after a shocking event left her devastated and distrustful of those she loved. Now, as she tries to find a way to make peace with her past and embrace a healthy future, she discovers that even she doesn't know the truth of what happened in her family of pretenders. Pretending to Dance by Diane Chamberlain, the bestselling author of The Silent Sister, is a fascinating and deftly-woven novel, that reveals the devastating power of secrets.
I love Diane Chamberlain's writing. I have read a lot of her books and this one is a cracker!
I am hoping ...
That I haven't ruined a friendship by trying to do too much and falling short.
Makes me smile ...
Vintage Fairy Illustrations by Hilda Cowham. This reminds of my childhood. I couldn't get enough fairy stories. I loved them.
I am learning ...
Low fat processed cheese tastes crappy in a Grilled Cheese. You might as well not bother. Seriously.
Dreaming about ...
Sleeping Moon Clocks Source
Liberty Fabric Pillows Source
His and Her Cups . . .
Enamel Milk Pans . . .
Vintage Dolls . . .

We are given strength
to bear the burdens of each day,
Grace sufficient for the hour
and light to see the way.
Whether in the vale of shadows
or on heights sublime,
Live your life with hope and courage.
One day at a time.
One of my favourite things ...
Pink hair . . . I wish . . .
A peek into my day ...
Bird watching . . . or watching bird . . . it works both ways. This is a long tailed tit I believe.
And that's my daybook for this week!

And I do too!
Good morning Marie,
ReplyDeleteI shall pray for your friend and your friendship. It is a nightmare when well meant plans go wry. I pray also that some sunshine and laughter blesses your day.
God loves you and I do too.
Suzan
ReplyDeleteOh, Marie... I'm so sorry you're having a tough time, a tough day. We can't do it all right, all the time... it just happens. Good intentions can backfire, unfortunately. We've all been there... But prayer is a great tool to get through and find pace & clarity... and hopefully, maybe even a way to clean up the mess we made. ;O) I do hope all goes OK... Oh, those pastas look sooo good. I love me some pasta--even more so these chilly days. Those felt mittens are sooo CUTE--love them all as a garland like that! The Putze houses are so pretty. I like the idea of a whole village of those... but where to put them all after Christmas?! LOL... And those his & hers cups are very cute too--sweet faces! Wishing you a good week ahead, my friend... may all be well! :o) ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))
I always like to think that if it's a true friend, they'll always be there no matter what. I have lost some, but still treasure them for what ever what they taught me along the way. I hope your Tuesday ia a terrific one.
ReplyDeleteAll that you can do about your friend is apologize and explain if she will let you. Then pray for her regardless of her reaction. I know you know all that. BTW I get your blog through Feedly and the date listed there is November 8, 2015. I thought that you were prophesying! ;)

ReplyDeleteYou knowI have found that sometimes doing an act of kindness can backfire:(
I can tell you stories..
and I am certain everyone can.
You did something out of caring..it still may turn out..but as soon as I would feel a twinge of guil..I would apologize..:)
I am the apologetic type..and can never understand..how sometimes something is so clearly deserving of an apology and none come.
True friends..?
I know they exist..but I have discovered Jacques and my daughters are the truest.:)
I have been downloading little houses too:) will send you a link of small cutie..
I love that mitten bunting..
Have a good day..clear te air as soon as you feel comfy doing so..:)
Thanks Suzan, we have had a chat and all is well. Prayers do help though. I know that. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThings have been pretty much sorted Tracy. Thank goodness. I wish you a very good week also. Love and hugs right back! xoxo
Thanks Pam. Most of my friends are tried and true. I haven't many, but the ones I do have are my treasures. Have a super Tuesday! xoxo
Things have been sorted, thankfully, Laura. I like the idea of being prophetic! haha ;-)
I can imagine you have plenty of stories to tell Monique. We are of a similar age, ilk and personality. I would imagine alot of our life's experiences are very close. Have a fab day! xoxo
Im late as usual these days getting to write my comments..So I am pleased to see that whatever you were worrying about has blown over..Im sure if she was a true friend she would understand your good intentions..I dont think anyone has not been in the same situation.
ReplyDeleteI am writing on my lap top today as my Apple I pad went funny this morning. Thankfully I called the apple shop and a very nice person tried to help...not helped ..yet...but they are e mailing me a new password or something and ar egoing to phone me tmorrow afternoon at a certain time and I have to wait til then and they will talk me through everything...They really are great at trying to help...Only ad thinng is I can't ""see" Joy in the morning on facetime and a it is her firt day of chemo today I wanted to "see" how she looked..however I will e mail her and hope he is able to open and read why I am not there with her..I know I could phone but dont like to bother Dave ..he i the one who answers now...Hopefully I might get her in teh afternoon. They have told her that she will feel quite poorly after the treatment as it ha to be quite a high doze...he was also getting measured today for a wig...Its so distressg Marie, Joy has been such a good friend to me for so many years...all thank to the internet...Anyway sending an extra hug to another great friend xxxx not forgetting Todd and Mitzie xxx
So glad your friendship is not ruined. Whoever would not love having you as a friend, Marie? I would love love love to have a friend as you.
ReplyDeleteJust in case you did not notice-- you got the date wrong Marie. It's the third today.
Aww, I felt bad when I read about plans for your friend going awry! I hope she sees it in a more positive light than how you are feeling about it. Hopefully it wasn't anything too big. You are so good to so many...we can't win them all and be and do everything all the time for everyone. As much as we would like to. Big hugs!!!! Love, Valerie xoxox
ReplyDeleteOh dear Sybil. My iPad seems to be jamming up all the time. Todd's works as fast as fast can be. I am not sure why. They have a new Apple Care Facility here in Chester now, in the Curry's store. Todd popped in the other day and they helped him with one of his problems. I am keeping Joy and Dave both in my prayers. Like you, the internet has only every brought nice people into my life, including you! Love and hugs. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna, although I am not a paragon of virtue, for sure! I will change the date! lol How did I do that? xoxo
No worries Val, it's all good. Love you. xoxo
