The Simple Woman's Daybook ...
FOR TODAY, August 18th, 2015
Outside my window ...
The sun is up and it looks like it is going to be a fine day. Yesterday ended gloriously! It's six am and it's already 13*C. I don't know what that is in farenheit. All I can say is, very promising!
I am thinking ...
We haven't had much of a summer weather-wise, maybe we will have a beautiful autumn.
I am thankful for ...
Being on a mission! Best decision we ever made!
In the kitchen ...
Grilled Chicken with a Summer Berry Salsa. Lovely grilled chicken breasts, all moist tender and flavourful . . . accompanied by a fruity yet zesty fresh berry salsa.
On my "To Cook" list ...
From Cocina de Alena, a delicious Banana Cake with a Cream Cheese Frosting. I have the Elders coming for tea tomorrow night and the Sisters, the night after that. This cake would serve as a dessert for both nights. I know, however did I end up putting down for two nights in a row!
I am creating ...
From Debbie Doos, some lovely fall crafting ideas. Dollar tree Fall crafting ideas with pumpkins, table top and more decorating ideas, for the Fall season on a serious friendly budget!
2 Little Superheroes. A complete tutorial on making your own ironing board cover.
Egg Carton Roses. A complete tutorial found on Rosijo Faricon. It's in Italian, but has a translator. These flowers are just beautiful.
Money Origami Butterflies. A novel way to give a financial gift. Very pretty. A pictorial tutorial on Useful DIY.
I could find no direct source for these affirmation stones, but I love them. I think they are quite gorgeous. Would be happy to apply a source if I could find one. They don't look that difficult to do however.
I am reading ...
All Fall Down, by Jennifer Weiner
Allison Weiss is a typical working mother, trying to balance a business, ageing parents, a demanding daughter and a marriage. But when the website she develops becomes a huge success, she finds herself challenged to the point of being completely overwhelmed. As she struggles to hold her life together and meet the needs of all the people around her, Allison finds that the painkillers she was prescribed for a back injury help her deal with more than just physical discomfort - they make her feel calm and get her through the increasingly hectic days. Sure, she worries that the bottles seem to empty a bit faster each week, but it's not like she's some Hollywood starlet partying all night. It's not as if she has an actual problem. Until she ends up in a world she never thought she'd experience outside of a movie theatre: rehab. And as Allison struggles to get her life back on track, she learns a few life lessons along the way.
In a way I can really relate to Allison. There was a time in my life that I struggled with Sleeping medication addiction. I self medicated myself for several years. I started to be afraid I would never wake up and took myself off them. I was ill and in bed for a week when I did. I said never again . . .
I am hoping ...
Our good friends Sheilagh and Ralph are coming this afternoon. I am hoping we have a nice visit together.
Makes me smile ...
This is a photograph I took at Chirk Castle a couple of years ago. It makes me smile for two reasons. One, it is a reminder of a lovely day that Todd and I spent together, and two, seeing flowers growing in the most unsual places always makes me smile. It reminds me of the tenacity of the human spirit. Bloom where you are planted.
I am learning ...
"Do everything with so much love in your heart that you would never want to to it any other way."
~Yogi Desai
Around the house ...
A bag a day keeps the clutter away from The Inspired Room. A twelve month decluttering plan. I am always up for that.
Cover your walls using fabric and starch. I love this idea. It would be nice in a bedroom where you could match one wall to your bedding. Love, LOVE. From Sincerely Sara D.
How to build Living Room built ins. Boy I wish my husband was handy this way. From Decor and the Dog.
From BHG, beautiful LOW COST bathroom updates. I'm all for low cost.
From Sand and Sisal, tips for preparing a new flower bed.
I am pondering ...
I am pondering on how I can lose weight without actually going on a diet. I don't think diets work. At least they don't for me. Every diet I have ever been on has made me fatter. I know I will never be skinny and I wouldn't want to be, but I would like to take off about 20 pounds.

One of my favourite things ...
Vintage Greeting Cards, especially if bluebirds are involved!
A Peek into my day ...
I look to the Saviour and try to follow His ways. It's not easy, and sometimes I fail, but I keep trying.
And that's my daybook for this week!

And I do too!!
Good morning Marie. I trust you have a very good day. It is summer like here right now with a top of 27 today. I am not looking forward to summer. My darn postal lcuk has struck again. I sent a parcel express post yesterday and the post of express posted it back to me this morning! What an expensive waste. I am tinkering with the idea of making you cinnamon cake. The recipe looks so good.
ReplyDeleteGod bless dear one and enjoy your day.
I think the post office charges an arm and a leg for bad service Suzan! I hope you complain! The leaves are already beginning to change here. Autumn is on it's way. God bless you! xoxo
ReplyDeletePS - The cinnamon cake is the best!
ReplyDeleteMarie I am so sorry: my dyslexic fingers strike again. I am so tired and can't seem to become untired. I apologise for my spelling errors. I have not made the cake. Instead I have stripped mum's bed and attended to some emergency washing. Thank goodness dinner is a simple roast. Whole vegetables and a butterflied leg of lamb are as easy as it gets. It will soon be too hot for such cooking.
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine the heat you have to endure Suzan. ((((hugs)))) I could not handle it myself. I like cooler weather myself. Sorry about the emergency washing! Life sucks sometimes! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's been the summer that never was here... LOL! This week we are finally having some real some and passing 20 C... LOL! I've always wanted to make-over my ironing board with a prettier fabric. The purchased one I have now is pink at least. But these things get ugly fast, I find. LOVE those affirmation stones!! That is a beautiful image of Jesus... *sigh*... Have a lovely day with your friends visiting... and lovely rest of the week, Marie! :o) ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))
ReplyDeleteTracy, that is how it's been here! The summer that never was. I am sure you could MAKE a beautiful Ironing board cover! You are such an excellent seamstress! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCute things arie..so happy being on a MIssion is everything you had hoped and more..I made a new banana bread this Sat..2 ..not my best..there's always one or two that become winners..:)
ReplyDeleteI take Melatonin..not sure if it works;)
Hope you have a lovely visit with your friends today !
ReplyDeleteI have learned Monique, that I will have sleepless nights. It's okay. If I have a sleepless night or two, I know I will sleep fabulously the next night. The nights I had to be up all night packing used to be very hard on me however. I couldn't sleep when I got home in the morning and it would be days before I caught up. I have heard of Melatonin. Not sure if it works either! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, we did. xoxo
