Small and Wonderful Things . . .
"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard
A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.
Two pretty happy looking grandsons! That's wee Jacob and big brother Jon! They kind of look like they are up to some mischeviousness! I wonder what it was . . . it's nice to see Jon looking so happy. He's a very sensitive lad. I think he is a lot like his father. He's also very creative, like his mom. Jacob. He's a happy little fella and likes to be in on everything. At least that's what I can tell from all the facetimes we have had on the iPad. I haven't really had a lot of time to spend with them in person. I am so grateful for the marvels of modern technology which enable me to spend some time with them and which helps to turn me into a real person for them.
Rain and showers. We need them. We've had some pretty dry weather for May and now June. A part of the reason this country is so beautiful and green is the rain that we get. You notice it when we don't get much. It's showery this morning and the gardens will love it.
June roses. The garden smells magnificent at the moment! Everywhere you go . . . the scent of roses and honeysuckle assail you. Aside from being very beautiful to look at, their smell is gorgeous. Will I remember to candy some this year? I sure hope so.
And the lavender is breaking into bloom also! Yay!
It's this little monkey's birthday today. It is hard to believe that he is already two years old! Time sure flies. I hope that I don't have to wait too much longer before I get to meet him, but life is what it is! I will meet him eventually I am sure!
Happy Birthday Cameron! Grammy loves you!
Speaking of blooms . . . I discovered four of my favourite children's books with flowery covers this morning. All illustrated by Anna Bond. I wonder if I can get them over here. I loved all of these stories as a child, and I have loved them as an adult. These flowery covers just gave me another reason to love them. Perhaps I could collect them one at a time . . . we shall see.
Hurry up Strawberries and ripen! I wait all year to taste these lovely berries, fresh from the garden with the warmth of the sun still on their flesh. Nothing on earth tastes better. Nothing. I check them each day, just waiting . . .
Will it be this week?
Being able to go to church on Sunday and have my spiritual battery refreshed. We spend at the very least three hours at church on Sunday. Some people might think that a lot to give up on a Sunday morning. I don't. Partaking of the sacrament and renewing my Baptismal covenants . . . listening to the talks which are given, the lessons that are taught, sharing thoughts with like minded people, seeing my special friends. It's all good. Even if I don't always feel like going when I wake up in the morning, I am always, always glad that I did. There is no place I would rather be on a Sunday, then right there.
And that's my small and wonderfuls for this week. I hope that your week ahead is filled with a multitude of small and wonderful things!
A thought to carry with you through today . . .

For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything thy goodness sends.

And I do too!!
God bless your Monday Marie. I have had a quiet day baking of all things. There is a chocolate cake to take to dad tomorrow and a Norfolk Island coconut bread for me as it is eggless. Mum has some gammon in the oven. This will be interesting as I have never had it, mum as never cooked it and I dislike pork.
ReplyDeleteHave a brilliant day. Pip wants me colour in with her but I need to put my feet for a we while first as my back aches.
The Coconut Bread sounds good Suzan! Mmm... I could never give up the chance to colour. I am sorely tempted to buy myself one of those new fangled colouring books, but . . . not sure if it would be as fun as making my own pictures to colour! Have a great evening! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThey are growing up so fast!!
ReplyDeleteI love color covers too..I found a chalkboard journal the cover..half price..in the checkout line of Michael's..I succumbed:)
Monique, I hae succumbed also and bought Anne of Green Gables. It's my birthday in August.I am calling it an early Birthday gift. perhaps I will be able to persuade Todd to get me another one in August, lol I don't know! I live in hope! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all your thoughts and photos today. You have such adorable little ones. I know that your heart aches to see them more often. I feel that way now about my grandchildren in Australia. I am so grateful for face time and Skype; that is so awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love roses too. We haven't planted any since we moved to Utah but I hope to, maybe this year.
Those books look so careful in those covers; I love it. We share the same love for reading.
I love church too and I hate it when I am unable to go. It's just the perfect place to be on a Sabbath day.
Blessings and hugs for this one!
Thanks LeAnn! I always appreciate your comments! xoxo
