The Simple Woman' Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, April 28th, 2015

Outside my window ...
It's perfectly broad daylight . . . earlier and earlier.   I can see blue sky and white fluffy clouds above the rooftops to the front of my window.  It is cool . . .  but so far it is dry.

I am thinking ...
How fickle the press is.   Last week all the news was about boat people from Libya (amongst all the election drivel).  This week it is all about the devestating earthquake in Nepal (again amongst all the election drivel).

I am thankful for ...
The NHS.  The Gospel in my life.  A husband who loves and cares about me.  Friends and faith.   My cup runneth over.

In the kitchen ...

I'm cooking tender and moist Roasted Bone In Chicken Breasts.   Quite simply delicious!

On my "To Cook" list  ...

 photo Barbacoa Tacos 800 8288_zpsyratxq20.jpg

Kevin Lynch's Barbacoa Tacos look just fabulous.  That guy can cook.   Find the recipe on Closet Cooking.   Kevin and I have been blogging mates and food blogging for about the same amount of time. His blog is much more sophisticated, the difference being he has the technological know how to do a lot more with his space than I do.    I am always winging it! haha

I am creating ...
My creativity has slowed right down with the advent of this eye problem.   But having realized (after some searching on google) that it will never get better, just more tolerable, I think I just have to plunge in and get creating irregardless.  Just so long as my eye doesn't get worse.

The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain
In The Silent Sister, Riley MacPherson has spent her entire life believing that her older sister Lisa committed suicide as a teenager. Now, over twenty years later, her father has passed away and she's in New Bern, North Carolina cleaning out his house when she finds evidence to the contrary. Lisa is alive. Alive and living under a new identity. But why exactly was she on the run all those years ago, and what secrets are being kept now? As Riley works to uncover the truth, her discoveries will put into question everything she thought she knew about her family. Riley must decide what the past means for her present, and what she will do with her newfound reality, in this engrossing mystery.
I am really enjoying it thus far! I love Diane's books. She's a great writer.

I am hoping ...
I am hoping that Todd and I are good missionaries.   We are on tenderhooks waiting for our Mission Call to come.  We know we won't be going away anywhere, just staying where we are, but we are looking forward to getting started.  From what we understand it will be basically supporting the young missionaries and inactives.  We're both really looking forward to serving.

Makes me smile ...

I am so glad I am not addicted to my mobile phone.   Half the time I can't even find it.  I am on Pay As You Go and £5 lasts me forever.

I am learning ...
That I am capable of achieving a lot more than I thought I was.

Around the house ...

I am pondering ...
How to be a more effective missionary. I think the key is selfless service to others with no motivation other than just wanting to help.  We must be the Saviour's hands.

I'm not sure exactly what that will entail but one thing I am sur eof is that you and Todd will be perfect for it Know that the Lord has faith in you to ask you to take on this task..We don't actually have missionaries as such in our church but we have Pastoral carers when a few of us are asked to support a few members and let them know that we are always here for them to help at any time whatever they might need...I have 5 that I keep in extra close contact with...I have just been seaking to another friend this morning who is having eye problems as well but thinng are worse than yours are she appear to be going blind...She lives in Wales and has had teh most awful trouble getting any answers to exactly what is wrong. She even went privately in teh end bu till not been satisfactorily ( is that a word !! ) attended to. I am so worried for her as she i getting very depresed and upset. Thankfully she manage dto get me on Skye this morning...for first time...but I don't seem to be able to call her..I am not at all succeful with the Skype thing...Anyway can I please ak you to pray fo rher her name is June..thanks Maggie, WE KNOW HOW POWERFUL PRAYER IS,hope the sun continues to shine, it is lovely down here as well although been a frost again overnight and I have certainly lost lots of plants...

  2. God bless you and Sybil's friend and care for your precious eyes.

I have had another day of taking mum to medical appointments. At least the sky was blue. We are told that tomorrow will see wet weather for a good few days.

    God bless everyone.

  3. Hi, Marie! Oh, but I'm sorry to hear that your eye problem hasn't really resolved, or maybe can be resolved... I pray for you! And I hope it won't be a situation that becomes worse. So many lovely things here today... apart from the news that is. Never much good in the news is there? ...*sigh*... I just lately got a new cell phone and getting used to it. I have a pay-as-you-go plan too and that's more than when I need/use. I don't get all the phone hoopla or addiction, either... LOL! Be taking good care there, my friend... Oh, and yes, that painting I shared at my blog--it was a detail from a little canvas I was playing with, inspired by spring colors! :o) Happy Days ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  4. Sybil, I am taking your friend June up in prayer and putting her name on the Temple Prayer role. For healing if possible and comfort and peace in all things. I don't get the Skype thing either. I do chat with my sister on it, but never by voice or video. Only just typing. She seems to be most comfortable with that. Sorry to hear about your plants. I have my fingers crossed we don't lose any. xoxo

Do you have Monsoon season there Suzan? I know so little about Queensland, only that it can be miserably hot and humid. God bless you. xoxo

I can't wait to see your whole painting Tracy. I am sure it will be just gorgeous. Everything you do is gorgeous. Love and hugs and Happy Days to you too. xoxo

  5. Marie the further north you go the more monsoonal the weather becomes. Sometimes our weather is almost monsoonal. The aboriginal peoples described the seasons in a very different way. We have a long hot season with rains, storms and cyclones from late Octeober to early April. Winter can be drier or it can be wet. Floods can be expected around Christmas and Easter.

I cannot really describe it. We have been told that we will have wet weather starting tomorrow for a few days and to expect up to 200 mm of rain. Some of the reas under this report were flooding last week and for them it is happening again.

  6. I hope you will be without floods my dear friend. xoxo

  7. The news is full of dire conditions around the world and I pray for those in need. The thing is that there are always so many things to also be thankful for and that is what keeps me going. I think we all play a missionary roll of some sort in our lives by showing others the love that God provides. With all you do already, I don't think you'll have a problem at all dealing with your new job. Funny you had that oven cleaning tip in your post today, that is something I need to do ! Take good care and have a terrific Tuesday !

  8. I think you are so right Pam. WE all have much we can do in the way of being the Saviour's hands. You are an inspiration to me always. xoxo

    Thanks Monique! You too! xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
