Saturday this and that . . .
This is a photograph a friend of mine posted on Facebook. It's an Autumnal picture of a place back home called Mahone Bay. These are called The Three Churches and are Anglican, United and Lutherin churches and what has been an iconic view of where I come from for many years. This view looks towards them across the harbour and I just think it is the most beautiful photograph . . . I love the colours. Our leaves do change over here, but not in vivid scarlets and golds like they do back home . . .
That same friend posted this photograph as well of the leaves along the Musquodoboit River. Simply breathtaking . . .
Then another friend of mine posted this photo, which is a view from a spot on the North Mountain back home called the look off. It's a spot where you can look out across the Annapolis Valley, which is where I am from . . . the Valley has her autumn dress on. Pictures like this make me feel a bit homesick for my family . . . especially this weekend, which is Thanksgiving back home. Most of the time I am alright in being so far away. The Internet makes it all so very much easier to be far away from your loved ones. We are very blessed in that way . . . but on holidays such as Thanksgiving . . . traditional family times . . . it does make one feel a bit homesick to be so far away, and photographs like this make it even more so, although in truth I am so very grateful for the glimpses they give me of a place that I love.
I can remember learning this Nova Scotian folk song when I was in Grade Six. I never dreamt that one day I would be listening to it and missing my homeland like I do here this morning.
The sun was setting in the west,
The birds were singing on every tree.
All nature seemed inclined to rest
But still there was no rest for me.
Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea-bound coast,
may your mountains dark and dreary be.
For when I am far away on the briny ocean tossed,
Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me?
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian family and friends! May you all be blessed!
Another friend posted this photo on their facebook page. I love it! Why do the young think love is reserved only for them? I am feeling very thankful for my own sweet wrinkled honey bun this weekend. We are the perfect match.
I didn't sleep well last night. I slept pretty solid for about an hour and then I woke up. That seems to be the pattern most nights. The rest of the night I kept waking up every hour on the hour. I don't know why this happens, but it happens more often than not. The other night I was worried about Ariana not putting out her candles and falling asleep with them lit in her bedroom . . . that kept me up all night. Last night it was worrying that our freezer had stopped working because I could not hear it's hum. I actually got out of bed and went over to it to check it out.
Now I know what you are thinking . . . why is there a freezer in our bedroom?? Well, it is just a small under the counter one, and we used to keep it in the spare bedroom, but that is Ariana's bedroom now and it had to go somewhere We don't have enough room for it in our kitchen, and so it sits on top at the end of the long lowboy dresser for now. They don't have cellars over here, well not in people's homes for the most part, although I am sure that some people do have them. We never have. Anyways, last night I was convinced it was broken and was worrying that we would lose everything in it and how would I replace it all . . . I can be such a worry wart sometimes. I need to stop these things from destroying my sleep!
Another friend of mine posted some really negative things about our church on facebook this morning as well.
She was only Baptised last year, probably a few weeks after I had left Nova Scotia to come back here, but since then she has left the church and has been really negative and belligerent about it. I know I need to stop looking at her page, but my heart just breaks for her . . . and for the anger that she feels and actually it's hatred that she spews out towards the church and it's leaders and members all the time. I don't understand it really. This morning she and all of her other friends were calling us "cult members," amongst other things and of course it shows up on my wall. I think I need to unfriend her . . . but then again, I find myself asking the question . . . if she hates us all so much, why doesn't she unfriend us?
What gets me is . . . if we were any other religion on earth and there are many . . . she and her "Christian" friends would not be doing this or saying these things. Why do they only feel the need to spew their hatred out towards Latter Day Saints/Mormons??? I don't think I will ever understand this type of behavior . . . and they call themselves Christians and followers of Christ.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
Anyways, I am babbling now . . . probably because I am tired and so I will leave you with a thought for today . . .

Marie as a fellow insomniac I would advise you limit your contact with things that you are not able to change. Certainly hold this person in prayer but I think you would be wise to avoid the Facebook page. I do not believe that one church has it all together. How can we as fallable beings make it so? One day God will gather his family and I think there will be surprises in store. When I wake I read my Bible. I try to absorb a little more.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and your weekend. Enjoy Thanksgiving. I would love to celebrate Thanksgiving. It seems so very right to me.
Now back to study.
Sorry thatyou have had yet another bad night Marie. It is horrid when we get the one hour deep sleep then awake every hour after I often get that as well. Although must say that after takingthe morphone tablet now I do usually get a fairly good night...unless MAsy decides she wants to woof quietly for some daft reason unknown to man !! I am all excitedthis mroning as I wait for teh clock hands to move to 9.30 and then Peter and I will be off on our holiday of a lifetime to China. So wont be around for next 2 weeks. I will miss my morning "chat" with you. Loved this mornings expecially as I also lobed that valley every time I went to Canada. I can remember those three churches so well and the lovely valley...remember picking apples in the valley one year just wonderful. Please take caer of yoursel whislt I am away. Take no notice of that so called "friend" I think I would de friend her ! still pray for her to have peace as no one can have peace whilst they are so angry with other people ... for whatever reason...But I certainly would not have her nasty comments on my "page" for all to see...
ReplyDeleteBye friend God Bless take care of that lovely husband of yours and not forgetting Mitzie of course xxxx Will be back mid day aprox 25th...
Thanks Suzan! I think you are right. I miss Thanksgiving. I would celebrate it but it's hard when you are the only one who really understands and feels what it is all about! xxoo
ReplyDeleteSybil, I hope you have the most wonderful trip to China! Be safe and be happy. I cannot wait to see your photos and hear all about it when you get back! xxoo
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday. We celebrate it in November. But we can all give thanksgiving every day no matter where we live. I've found that when I'm upset, I count my blessings and that makes me feel a whole lot better about things. Hope your Saturday is a super one ! Focus on the good and count your blessings!
ReplyDeleteI may invite the American missionaries over in November when it is their Thanksgiving Pam. I am sure they would bring their same love of the holiday to the table and I would be able to experience it with them! I agree, counting your blessings is a good thing! Have a great Saturday yourself! xxoo
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing your photos of Nova Scotia. I will be leaving for a trip to the Valley at the end of this coming week. Sadly, the leaves and the colour may be over but the people who are warm and welcoming will be there for sure. Avoid the negativity on FB whenever you can. Just shutting it out (or change your settings to stop the notices) brought me peace when I went through a difference of opinion with someone who used it as their soapbox. Sleep well tonight.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are beautiful..
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you have beautiful sights too..
I can imagine it being hard to be away at holiday time..:(
It's one day..just one day:) Not even!
I am the classic worry wart too.
I am home now and finally saw the pics. They are beyond awesome. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteColleen I hope you enjoy your visit to the valley! I would surely love to be there this weekend myself! The colours may still be around. Maybe you will get lucky!
ReplyDeleteMonique, you are so alike me, that it's uncanny! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! xxoo
Thanks Suzan, so happy you were finally able to see them! xxoo
Dear Marie,
ReplyDeleteI am catching up on my blog reading. I love all of those gorgeous photos! I can surely identify with insomnia. Your story, sounds identical to my story every night. I have recently started taking a supplement called Caliquil that is made up of California Poppy. It is really helping me get my needed rest. I love it since it is all natural too.
I hope you are able to rest soon.
Blessings and Sunshine,
Valerie
Marie, the pictures of Nova Scotia are absolutely lovely! We had autumns much like that when I was raised in Missouri. I miss them so much. Here in the desert it goes from hot summer to mild winter so very little color change or anything similar. Speaking of the Church, I have also noticed that if a crime is committed or even suspected, the bad guy is almost always identified as a Mormon, or member of the Church. You never see a news article that says, "John Smith, a Methodist, or Mary Jones, a Baptist" was arrested for child cruelty or bank robbing, etc. For some reason it always seems necessary to make notice that the LDS church was the home base for this or that criminal. Maybe it is just a way for the great deceiver to make another stab at those who try so hard to live Christ's teachings. Have the socks come in handy yet? Lynn
ReplyDeleteAnother very poorly night as our Mitzie has not been very well again and I am very worried about her. Please pray for her Val. I know you will. xxoo
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn, the socks indeed have come in very handy. I am so grateful for them. I would love to be able to do something for you in return. :-( xxoo
