Five Things About Me
Fasten your seat belts! Yeppers, it's another five things about me post! (Hope you aren't getting tired of them!)
This is a picture of my Cut and Come Again Cake. (Look for the recipe soon!) I LOVE CAKE. In those first wee moments when I open my eyes in the morning, when I am trying to shake the sleep from my eyes . . . this morning, I was thinking . . . I don't know a cake that I don't like. I cannot think of literally one kind of cake that I am not fond of. At least that I have heard of at any rate. Conventional Cakes. If you were to approache me with a cake which was made from something disgusting like insects or dung, of course I would not like or even be tempted to eat them. But ordinary everyday cakes??? I'm your gal! I love LOVE cake! Do you have a favourite cake? If I had to choose only one . . . it would be . . . pound cake. I quite simply adore pound cake.
I have a huge space in my heart for animals and nature. I have always had a huge space in my heart for God's creation and creatures. I cannot bear to watch cruelty of any kind to animals and it distresses me to no end when things like that come up on my facebook wall. My heart breaks each time and I want to throw up. I know that people are amazingly cruel to animals. I don't want to see it. I had to stop watching some nature shows because I get too upset when I see lions hunting and killing, or a baby animal in distress and nobody helping it. I cannot understand how the camera people cannot intervene. I would be intervening. I know it is nature and natural that these things happen. I know lions need to hunt to eat and survive. I just don't like to see it. I would rather keep these things locked away in my vault of things I don't want to deal with or look at. Entertainment for some, but not for me . . .
Men in kilts. I go ga ga over men in kilts. I think its that Scottish Laird thing they get going in my veins. I used to love to read historical romance novels and the ones with Sottish Lairds were the ones I loved the most. (And the ones with Vikings . . . ahem.) I loved Dragonfly in Amber by Diane Gabaldon. Brave Heart. Rob Roy. The Highlander. History suddenly became a lot more interesting when I discovered men in kilts . . . fact mingled with the mysteries of Hollywood.
I must stress here however . . . that not all men in kilts get my temperature rising. There are a few exceptions.
Who was your favourite Beatle? I'm pretty sure mine was George Harrison. I am still a sucker for a Liverpool accent. I just love them. (Even if when they talk really fast I can't understand them.) I have always been a Beatle's fan. I adore their music. I could listen to it from hours. I can remember being allowed to stay up late to watch them when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. I would have been about 8 years old or so. It was love at first sight, ya . . . ya . . . ya . . .
George was my favourite. Now as an adult and after having reading about him and seeing his films. I think he was the most sensitive AND the nicest of all those lads and he is still my favourite and it is a favourite not based on looks, but on who he was.
I love films. I was sitting here this morning trying to think about what was my all time favourite film, and I was having a difficult time because I have so many films that I really, really like. I finally settled on Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It's not for the great script or the cinematography or anything else like that . . . it's for the story and the way it makes me sigh even when I think of it. I am a romantic at heart and the idea that someone could travel through time to find the person they love just gets me giddy. I loved the costumes and that old world feel about the film. I loved the premise of it. I loved that there was no swearing in it or gratuitious sex, no real violence. (Spoiler Alert) I cried at the end when he died trying to get back to her. . . . just wasting away in his chair . . . sigh . . . What is your favourite film?
And there you have it, five things about me that you possibly didn't know before. My life is such an open book, I am sure you may have already known some of them, but I am hoping there were a few surprises in the mix!
A thought to carry with you through today . . .

Lyn is going with me to go and collect her at the "gate" It will be nice to have her back again..although it has been a nice rest whilst she has been away. I do feel much refreshed... Marie I love your facts. I am quite partial to cake but over the years i have yet to convince people that fruit cake is far from my favourite. Although I will eat fruit cake with cheese. I am told this is a Yorkshire thing and I gee up with it. Truthfully it is an excuse for cheese.
ReplyDeleteToday was bleak but while everyone was in the dentist the weather cleared. We drove quickly to one of our favourite seaside fish and chip shops and had a wonderful lunch. Will was with us and he hates the dentist and he was one cross boy because somehow someone cut their gas line at work. It did not stop the stoves. It stopped the fridge and he had done prep for four days. Over $4000 worth of food had to be tossed. I was happy to see him cheer up.
God bless.
I always enjoy hearing the things you share about yourself. I feel I probably know you better than some of my real life friends. Hope you have a wonderful Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it! Somewhere in Time is one of my all-time favorites too. Another one is: If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium. I loved that movie as a teen. I'm making those potatoes tomorrow! Of course, I'll tweek them a little. Bacon might be involved. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your facts!
ReplyDeleteI think I loved Paul the most but with the years a bit less..Don't know why..
Love movies too:)
Too many all time faves..
Loved Somewhere in Time also.
Sometimes I forget movies..I remember I loved them..but sometimes I forget..
Nothing I am worried about..books the same..I forget them..or not..
Have a great day.
Pound cake would be a favorite here, too. It is so very adaptable to different flavorings!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm with you all the way on this blog Marie....I love cake too!! I also love the Beatles and although George is my favourite I went to see Paul McCartney in Hyde Park about four years ago and he was fabulous. Glad you like the Liverpool accent and when we eventually meet I promise not to talk to quick! Haha! My favourite film is Ryan's Daughter. The scenery is amazing too. It's set in Ireland and I managed to go and see where the film was made a few years ago. It was beautiful. Hope you're ok. Lots of love xxx
ReplyDeleteI always love to learn 5 more things about you dear Marie.
ReplyDeleteMy personal favorite cake is German Chocolate cake. I am afraid chocolate always trumps anything else.
I do not like any bad animal stories either. I hate any cruelty to animals.
I have Scottish ancestors; so I love
kilts and I love Scottish romance books too.
I did like most of the Beatle songs; but didn't follow them much.
My favorite movies are "Gone With The Wind" and "Sound of Music.
Loved this one and blessings to you!
Hi cake lady! The chocolate fiend that I am loves chocolate cake the most with a really good chocolate frosting/icing. And maybe a dollop of whipped cream and a couple maraschino cherries.
ReplyDeleteI am the VERY same way with animals. Despise animal cruelty so much and also have to turn the channel when one is being hunted on TV. I know all too well that feeling of wanting to get sick. Animals are so precious. A gift from God. By the way, that giraffes face is so cute!
Can't remember if I told you that Brave Heart is one of my very favorite movies.
Whoops! I hit the "Publish Your Comment" button by mistake before I was finished. So tired tonight. Hope you have a wonderful Friday Marie! Big hugs!

Sorry to be so late in commenting girls!
ReplyDeleteI love cherry cake too Sybil. You can keep the cherries from falling by first washing them and then drying them really well with some paper towels. Then take a bit of flour from the recipe, just a TBS or so and dredging them in it. That way they stay throughout the batter, or at least they are supposed to. We had a sunny day yesterday as well. Almost like Indian summer! It's nice to have a break from people at times, but it's also nice to welcome them home again!xx
I do love fruit cake myself. It's Todd's absolute favourite! He love LOVES it! I have never tried it with cheese. I will have to do so next time I bake one" Oh so sorry to hear about all of Will's prep going in the bin. The restaurant must have been thrilled at the loss too! xx
Pam, I am flattered that you would say that!! I hope you have a fab Friday and weekend! xx
Laura, I am not surprised. I loved the music, still do! Bacon always makes everything better. ;-) xx
Thanks Monique, I started off liking Paul, but then everyone liked Paul. I always liked to be a bit different and ended up adoring George. Still do. Have you seen the film on his life? It's just wonderful. xx
Pound cake comes in so many flavours Nellie! And it goes with so many things! My mom always liked to serve it with vanilla ice cream and it was such a special treat. I still love it that way, but sometimes with tinned peaches. xx
Kate you were so lucky to get to see Sir Paul! I will now have to look up Ryan's Daughter. I have seen snippets of it, but never the whole thing! xx
LeAnn, love chocolate cake, but pound cake is my favourite, especially my sour cream chocolate pound cake. ;-) Blessings to you too! xx
Valerie, it's my dream that one day you and can watch Braveheart together and drool ensemble! lol I am not surprised you love that film. I have Scottish ancestors too. It would not surprise me to discover we have an ancestor in common you know! xx
Marie, we HAVE to make it happen! I know it will one day! :-) xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt will and then we can go the Cavern together as well! Yay!! xxoo
