Small and Wonderful Things . . .

  photo SMALLANDWONDERFULTHINGS_zps0c49db7e.jpg

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life.   It's the small things in life which truly mean the most.  Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

Here we are one year old Cameron!  It's hard to believe a year has passed since he was born, but it has.  His mum is back at work now and I expect he is at the child minders with his sister when Amanda and Tom can't be with them.  It must be such a wrench to go back to work after having had almost a year back at home with the children.  I am so grateful that I never had to do that for the most part.

This wee one has such an engaging personality.  I love her to bits.   She looks like a lover of life.  The best time of all was last year when I got to spend several hours with her on the day I was flying back to the UK.  We played in her play room.  I had a hand puppet which was hungry and she kept bringing things for him to eat. It was fun.  I wish I could do things like that more often, but I suppose one good thing about me not being able to is that I cherish the times I can all the more.

The opportunity I have each week to partake of the sacrament and renew my covenants.   It seems like such a small thing and it probably is, but it means the world to me.   It is a special time for me, when I focus on the Saviour and all that He did for us . . .  a time to remember Him, and to honor that remembrance by partaking in that special ordinance each week, and beginning a new week afresh.  Little mini washing cleans . . . small and wonderful . . .  yes.

Visiting my friend Doreen and bring her some of these scrummy doughnut muffins.    I knocked up a quick batch after church yesterday just prior to calling my mom.  Doreen just loves them and I thought she would enjoy them.  She was pleased to see me and to see the muffins.  I visit her several times a week.   It doesn't seem like much, but to an elderly woman who has a very limited world, those visits mean a lot.  I hope that when I am old I have someone who comes to visit me, and who brings me muffins from time to time.  Is there someone in your life or neighborhood that you could bring muffins to or spend a few minutes with?  Someone whose life you could bless with your presence and attention from time to time.  It's a small thing, but it's pretty wonderful, both to the visitor and to the visitee!

I've been saving my pennies and guess where I am going this afternoon!  Yeppers, Todd and I have a date to go and see Jersey Boys!  It's the last days when it will be at the cinema, today and tomorrow, so we booked it just in time!  Whew!  I love, LOVE the music of Franki Valli and the Four Seasons.  I am really looking forward to this film.  I know we could have waited for it to come out on DVD, and most likely when it does we will purchase the DVD.  We love musicals and we thought this was one we wanted to see on the big screen.  Well, I thought it was one I wanted to see on the big screen I guess!  Todd's just going along for the ride.  He'll enjoy it anyways!

That little wet nose that taps on the back of my calves each morning when I walk into the kitchen to get her breakfast ready.   My early morning companion.  What would I do without her.  I fear I am smitten beyond measure.  She has woven a spell around my heart that I will never ever escape.   I love our Mitzie so much.  She is small and she is pretty wonderful.

And that is it for this week.   What were some of your small and wonderful's over this past week?   I would love, LOVE to hear about them!

A thought to carry with you through today  . . .

  1. Good Morning Marie,

The year has flown and the little boy is one. He looks adorable and I am sure I know there is at least one very proud grandma celebrating today.

I would like to see Jersey Boys. Beth saw it in London and enjoyed it. IT has just come out here and I hope it stays another two weeks or so. School holidays mean busy cinemas and secondly it is finally Cats week. This time next week the cast of 800 plus will be celebrating a big Memory.

    Enjoy the day.

  5. What wonderful blessings! I enjoyed your post. Those muffins look so yummy. I will have to make some to share with a shut in friend. She is in her 80's and always such a joy to be around. It is more fun to give than to receive. Blessings and sunshine, Valerie

  6. Oh your sweet little ones are so precious.
I too love partaking of the Sacrament; it is a favorite thing for me.
I love our Sammy just like you love Mitzie. These little dogs are just so wonderful.
I must try the muffins and take them to some visits I make. I too know that these older sisters just enjoy a good visit with friends; especially when they can't be out and about.
I am missing my dear Aunt Della. I miss going to see her; it was such treasured moments.
Blessings for sharing your wondrous things; I loved reading them.
